Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We inspire guests of all ages to connect with the significance of space exploration as incredible feats of human spaceflight continue to bring joy and wonder to the world. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate.

We are seeking a part-time VIP Tour Guide responsible for hosting VIP’s and other special groups during their visit to Space Center Houston. Responsibilities and qualifications appear below:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for presenting an educational and informative behind-the-scenes tour of the Johnson Space Center; effective in communicating the NASA story from an insider’s point of view.
  • Engage guests with presentations at various exhibits or locations at Space Center Houston.
  • Serve as a tour guide following a strict agenda for the tour designed to provide the best experience of the facilities at JSC.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of ongoing NASA programs by researching NASA training materials, books, periodicals and documents pertinent to the job.
  • Serve as content expert for crew member and volunteer trainings.
  • Respond to guest questions with accuracy and diplomacy.
  • Responsible for the safety of guests as they enter and exit the Tram Boarding Area and all facilities on the tour.
  • Constantly interact with the guests during the tour, maintaining a pleasant attitude and positive outlook.
  • Know and execute all emergency evacuation procedures at Space Center Houston and JSC.
  • Communicate accurate, up to the minute NASA program information in an educational and entertaining way.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area.
  • Cooperate with his/her fellow Crew Members, assisting them with common duties and responsibilities of the position to ensure the efficient operation of the area.
  • Provide general support for Guest Operations Department as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent guest service skills, job performance and attendance record.
  • Strong knowledge of the space industry and the Johnson Space Center facility.
  • Ability to learn new material and communicate effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an enthusiastic, courteous and outgoing personality.
  • Must have the maturity to work well with little or no supervision and as part of a team.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to learn all aspects of SCH and JSC.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to move groups rapidly, yet creating a personable experience for each group.
  • The ability to drive a vehicle and/or work at assigned locations for up to 8 hours with periodic breaks.
  • Well-groomed appearance, good vocabulary and speech, self confident.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to assist guests in emergency situations.
  • The ability to deal with unexpected guest situations in a positive manner.
  • The ability to memorize scripts and present them in a conversational manner.
  • Must be self motivated and have the initiative to research and provide information in response to questions presented from the guests.
  • Ability to assist guests in wheelchairs to their locations.
  • Additional language skills are a plus.
  • Successfully complete a motor vehicle driving history check and drug screen.
  • Minimum age for employment in this position is 18.
