What you will be doing:

• Spotting cars on the correct track; moving empty cars and building the outbound train
• Classification of inbound train
• Interaction with Class One railroad
• Visually inspect rail cars and perform air brake inspections
• Cross-train and assist in the different functions performed at the facility
• Operate a locomotive -we provide training and certification
• Participate in and promote the Savage safety program/SHAPS

Requirements of a successful Rail Switchman:

• Minimum of two years of switching experience
• Work is performed within a refinery setting and requires all hires to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
• Attend and pass all training associated with job-related coursework. This includes but is not limited to: OSHA, HazMat, and FRA related courses
• Travel to other sites to assist in switching and training requirements
• Willingness to wear required PPE
• Work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends
• Read, write understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
• Perform basic maintenance

Here are some of the physical requirements of this role:

• Work outdoors in all-weather conditions in addition to walking, and standing on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
• Comfortable with heights
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
