Job purpose 

This position, under the direction of the Head of Group Management Accounting & Reporting Development, Group Finance, will support and challenge the team to minimize the deviation from the budget and ensure that the project is completed within the approved budget but also offer business knowledge for the finance organization. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Responsible for controlling project costs; to include developing and implementing proactive solutions and cost-

cutting measures 

  • Planning, developing, controlling and forecasting project’s budgets 
  • Responsible for product costing and profitability calculation in SSAB Mobile Mill   
  • Participate in costing and profitability reporting development across all SSAB Mills   
  • Work in conjunction with all department heads to ensure maximum profitability 
  • Maintain vendor and service provider relationships 
  • Remain acutely aware of market trends that could impact resource costs; to include collaboration with departments to strategize ways to minimize waste 
  • Analyze invoices to ensure correct products/services were received at the expected cost 
  • Understand the entire arc of the business and how productivity impacts profitability 
    Present new strategies and assessments to stakeholders in a compelling fashion 

Qualifications 

Required Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an 

equivalent combination of education & experience 

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in the field of finance, accounting, forecasting and/or cost 

accounting, i.e., product costing calculations, operations controlling and analysis, preferably in the process 
industry 

  • Advanced knowledge of mathematics and statistics, understanding of organizational accounting concepts, strong 

financial analysis skills, and ability to perform risk and security assessments 

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and 

external customers, extremely organized with an aptitude for data 

  • Excellent computer proficiency (QuickBooks; MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook); Power BI, SQL, 

relational data warehouses 

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service 
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices 
  • Strong attention to details, analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good 

time management skills, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive   

  • Current/active driver’s license 

Preferred Education & Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in finance, Accounting or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an 

equivalent combination of education & experience 

  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in the field of finance, accounting, forecasting and/or cost 

accounting, i.e., product costing calculations, operations controlling and analysis, preferably in the process industry 

  • Knowledge of “local” GAAP and IFRS standards a definite asset. 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is highly valued. 
    Experience performing month-end closes. 
  • Experience in the steel, manufacturing or services industries 

 

Working conditions 

Travel 10% of time for meetings at other SSAB locations (inventory counts), trainings, seminars & conferences as needed
