Summary/Purpose
The Setter will be responsible for operating and setting a variety of machines which include form presses and pierce presses. This will be done through the complete adherence of standard work documentation.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
- Set up a variety of machines to produce components and retainers to customer specifications.
- Make changeovers as necessary.
- Repair breakdowns as quickly as possible to minimize downtime.
- Use a variety of hand tools and gages to make machine adjustments and changes in tooling.
- Perform routine daily and weekly checks on machines to assure proper maintenance and meet safety requirements.
- Remove, repair, and/or replace tooling to changeover or improve setups.
- Assist and support the production operators by timely setups, repairs, and material handling.
- Record production results, quality checks, traceability logs and scrap as required
- Perform SPC charting and properly document all production and quality measures.
- Maintain SJM logs
- Pull tooling to spot check and verify tooling in Tool Crib.
- Preset tooling setups for machines
- Clean and inspect used tooling and decide whether to resharpen or reorder,
- Inventory spot check of tooling in Tool Crib.
- Get new tooling from Tool Crib as needed.
- Maintain P-Cards and tooling life information on number of parts ran per usage.
- Know and follow Quality and Production Instructions.
- Responsible for all 5-S and general housekeeping daily. Perform major cleanup on the line as required.
- Train other associates as directed.
- Must be able to lift 40lbs.
- Support departmental goals concerning housekeeping, safety, quality, productivity, delivery and Standard Work/5s/Lean.
- Maintain knowledge of current quality and safety system(s) and other regulatory compliance related to this position.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical/troubleshooting skills (Assessment will be given)
- Use of automatic and manual gages
- Use of hand tools including wrenches, screw drivers, ratchets
- Math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, conversion from English to Metric and vice versa
- Blueprint reading
- Problem solving skills
- Fundamental computer skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work weekends and overtime as requested by Manager
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Two years plus experience in manufacturing processes

- Work is performed in a normal manufacturing area.
- This position has an exposure to moderate noise levels, moving mechanical parts, electrical power distribution and controls, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, steam distribution and generation, water, various types of lubricants, chemical and wash baths, extreme heat, mechanical machine operation, etc.
- Must be able to stand up for 8 hours.
- Will be regularly required to climb, stand, sit, and reach with hands, fingers, and arms.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching are required.
- This position requires regular lifting of work up to 40 pounds, and push or pulling work up to 125 pounds with proper equipment.
