Tax Department Intern
EXL’s US Tax Team is looking to hire immediately a tax summer intern primarily to help test Project Renaissance tax reports. EXL is in the process of transitioning to a new ERP system, and there are various tax-specific reports under development. The intern’s role is primarily to run testing to ensure that the tax specific reports meet the tax team’s request/expectations.
This is an important large volume, time-sensitive project the US Tax Team needs to address over the next few months. The intern will run tests based on guidance from US Tax Team as each report becomes available by the SFO team. A successful intern will pay attention to detail, stay focused, work as a part of a team, and work within established deadlines under supervision from the US Tax Team.
Below are further details of the internship and a description of example tasks that will be worked on by the Intern:
- Assist with research for determining the state income/franchise tax return filing requirements for foreign disregarded entities and US domesticated entities.
- Prepare a summary/matrix based on the research results.
- Follow up with state/local taxing authorities for additional information, if required.
- Prepare NIL returns or proforma returns using e-Forms tax software.
- Maintain a tracker for the filing status/progress to help coordinate internally.
- Assist with preparing Power of Attorneys for various tax jurisdictions.
- Assist with logging federal, state and local tax notices received from EXL offices.
- Check the online state accounts for any open matters.
- Prepare/update intercompany agreements utilizing templates.
- Coordinate legal review of intercompany agreements.
- Prepare excel based tax workpapers.
- Assist in tax GL accounts analysis.
- Other matters that may arise day-to-day.
Duration: Summer of 2025, approximately three months (12-13 weeks), from mid-May thru mid-August 2025 (hours can be flexible)
Location: Will be required to work from EXL’s Jersey City office at least two days per week (may be more, depending on need.
Qualifications:
- Matriculated college student with a major in business, finance, or accounting.
- Hardworking, honest, dependable, practical, and dedicated.
- Experience with computers/technology and proficiency with MS Office
- Technical research, Skillful writing, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Self-motivator with the ability to work independently and meets deadlines.
