Responsibilities:

 

Our Lansing, MI branch is seeking a full-time CDL-A truck driver. This position is first shift, M - F, and paid hourly (no flat rate!) with occasional overtime as needed. You will be home each night. The primary responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:

  • Timely delivery of equipment and basic upkeep of the truck
  • Maintain daily trip logs (electronic log book & electronic timecard)
  • Use company provided cell phone for timecard log
  • Accurately complete paperwork
  • Providing exceptional customer service
  • Work and manage workloads independently
  • Proper completion and submission of all required paperwork
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • A minimum of 2 years of previous CDL-A truck driving experience is desired
    • Heavy Haul experience preferred
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A with a clean driving record
  • Detach trailer/hydraulic ramp experience
  • Knowledge in chaining/securing equipment
  • Ability to operate forklifts and similar equipment
  • Ability to hook and unhook trailers
  • Must be able to operate manual transmissions
  • Computer programs - HYPASS, Hyster TKC training software and Hyster contact management system
  • Language Skills - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Mathematical Skills - Basic: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability - Intermediate: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

 

  • Move and carry chains for securing load
  • Climb on/into trucks and trailers
  • Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands; Frequently will talk/hear; Occasionally will sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Vision: No special vision requirements.
  • Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift up to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift 11 to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift from 26 to 100 plus pounds
  • Work Environment: Regularly will work near moving mechanical parts; Frequently will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions; Occasionally will work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), extreme cold and heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, vibration
