POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity to join the corporate accounting department of TriMark USA. Reporting to the Corporate office in Mansfield, MA, this is a key role focused on operationalizing the company’s National Compensation Accounting center of excellence. This role requires a goal-oriented professional with command of the details, broad understanding of accounting and financial reporting cycles, and passion for continuous improvement and team development.

The Director, National Compensation Accounting, is the leader of a team responsible for developing and maintaining accounting operations workflows for sales related commissions and SPIFFs (internally and externally funded), management incentive plan (MIP), and payroll accounting & reconciliations.  This position will work closely with sales operations, HR, and payroll teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of compensation accounting, including calculations, accruals, payments, and reconciliations. Additionally, this group will partner with FP&A to develop budgets and quarterly forecast updates. This individual will operate across functions and divisions to actively improve accounting operations and internal controls over the compensation cycle to ensure payments to employees are correct and on schedule. Effective communication, collaboration, and the ability to operate in a highly matrixed structure to manage multiple simultaneous priorities is essential to success.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ownership of the compensation accounting cycle to develop, document, implement, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls and workflows to leverage financial systems and validated reports to drive operational efficiencies while providing superior service levels to the business and to improve overall efficiency and quality of outcomes
  • Collaborate with finance and HR teams to implement and maintain effective compensation accounting policies and procedures and mechanisms to ensure all plans are known & accounted for, including any severance or retention programs or agreements
  • Partner with divisions and IT to create key reports and develop test plans to continuously validate report accuracy
  • Oversee the calculations and accounting of all commission and SPIFF programs to ensure compliance with approved plan guidelines and coordinate management approval and payment through payroll
  • Lead the payroll accounting and reconciliation to general ledger balances
  • Drive timely resolution of payroll variances or discrepancies through collaboration with HR/payroll teams
  • Develop a high-performing team through effective hiring, coaching, development, accountability, and succession planning to support a growing business model
  • Support the annual audit of all compensation related activities in cooperation with HR/payroll
  • Support FP&A’s annual budget and forecast cycles with provision of necessary accounting information and understanding of actuals to inform trends
  • Perform other related duties/special projects as required and assigned

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, especially related to compensation accounting
  • Ability to analyze high volumes of information to assess completeness and accuracy
  • Familiarity with the mechanics of sales incentive plans and understanding of typical processes and workflows around inputs, calculations, and stakeholder reviews for accuracy
  • Attention to detail and keen focus on clerical accuracy
  • Capable to interact professionally to build relationships and effectively work across functions and divisions in a matrixed organization and effectively communicate to all levels of the organization, orally and in writing
  • Can clearly communicate financial information to non-finance individuals
  • Ability to lead a professional team potentially geographically dispersed to achieve maximum productivity
  • Confidentiality is critical and the ability to protect sensitive, personal and confidential information is a must
  • Sense of urgency to ensure all issues are resolved timely and ability to work independently and with a team
  • Extremely analytical, metrics-driven with a background leading an operations driven function
  • Knows how to navigate a matrixed organization and work across functions and divisions to successfully accomplish objectives

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or a related field is required
  • At least 8 years of accounting experience with at least 3 years in a management position overseeing direct reports
  • Working with private equity sponsors in a high growth company environment is preferred
  • CPA is preferred, MSA or MBA a plus
  • Must be proficient and able to use Microsoft Office applications, advanced knowledge of Excel is a plus
  • Familiarity with integrated ERPs is required, experience with JDE, Lawson or InforM3 is a plus
