About the Role

As our Athletic Field Technician, you'll be responsible for the year-round care and maintenance of all athletic fields on our campus. This is a hands-on landscape position vital to ensuring our athletes have safe, pristine, and playable surfaces for practices and games. You'll work independently and as part of the broader grounds team, reporting to the Facilities Director.

This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position, with a consistent schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will include a comprehensive range of tasks to maintain our athletic fields:

• Turf Management: Mowing, aerating, fertilizing, topdressing, and irrigation of all athletic fields (e.g., football, soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse).
• Pest & Disease Control: Identifying and treating turf diseases, weeds, and pests using appropriate methods and materials.
• Field Preparation: Lining and painting fields for various sports and events. Setting up and taking down goals, nets, and other field equipment as needed.
• Infield Maintenance: For baseball/softball fields, performing tasks such as dragging, watering, raking, and mound/home plate repair.
• Equipment Operation: Safely operating and performing basic maintenance on specialized athletic field equipment, including mowers, aerators, spreaders, and utility vehicles.
• Drainage Management: Monitoring and maintaining field drainage systems.
• Record Keeping: Documenting all field treatments, maintenance activities, and material usage.
• Safety Compliance: Adhering to all safety protocols related to equipment operation, chemical handling, and general outdoor work.
• Seasonal Support: Assisting with general campus landscaping tasks and snow removal as needed.

What We're Looking For

• Experience: Previous experience working on and maintaining athletic fields is preferred. A strong background in general landscape maintenance is required.
• Turf Knowledge: Solid understanding of turfgrass management principles, including soil types, irrigation, fertilization, and common field maintenance practices.
• Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to field maintenance, ensuring surfaces are always safe, level, and visually appealing.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs regularly, occasionally up to 100 lbs), bending, kneeling, and operating equipment for extended periods. Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Independent Work: Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Safety-Conscious: Commitment to safe work practices and proper equipment use.
• Communication: Effective communication skills to coordinate with coaches, athletic directors, and the facilities team.
• Driver's License: A valid driver's license is required.
• Background Check: Successful completion of a comprehensive background check is required upon hire.
