A day in the life of a Director of Land Acquisition
 
Stanley Martin is both a land developer and homebuilder. As a Director of Land Acquisition, your role is to acquire land to build on in each of our division(s) to meet annual business goals. Each day may look different for you with in-office work balanced with time spent in the market maintaining contacts and sourcing new land deals. Your ability to network comes with ease and makes it feel effortless to create new contacts in your market and maintain a network of people to consistently provide leads for new land. You are always looking at your team’s performance and strengths to confirm they are high achievers who can manage multiple projects within many jurisdictions. Once a prospective land deal is uncovered, your time will be spent overseeing contracting, due diligence and feasibility studies with the market research team, to ensure the land position is a fit for the company’s strategy and business goals. You will be a key component of the team that will present these new land deals to Stanley Martin’s Land Investment Committee for approval.

  • DXC Homebuilder One (HB1)
  • Microsoft Office Suite, with a high-level understanding and capability with Excel
  • Microsoft 365 including SharePoint, One Drive and Teams

The ideal Director of Land Acquisition has outstanding project management, relationship building and negotiation skills and works well in a fast-paced environment. A great Director of Land Acquisition is driven by results and able to use their relationship building and persistence to get the job done. The best person for this job is able to find new opportunities in a market and act quickly to determine if they are the right fit for the company. 

Must Haves:
  • Strong experience in providing land acquisition and development services for residential homebuilders
  • Naturally results driven, especially in developing landowner relationships and the ability to close deals
  • Extensive knowledge in due diligence and the feasibility study process
  • High level knowledge in negotiating, contracting and legal components of land acquisition
  • General understanding of finance and risk management
  • Uses technology and other resources to effectively organize work and daily tasks to be completed by the team
  • Exudes active listening, confidence, and respect when communicating with others
  • Ability to lead a team, identify strengths in team members and effectively assign tasks and projects 
  • Excited to learn various technologies utilized on the job
