Job purpose:

The role of the Human Resources Director is to manage all aspects of human resources (HR) practices and processes. This position is responsible for job design, recruitment, employee relations, performance management, succession planning, policy administration, training and development, and talent management. The role involves addressing employee-related matters. Provides HR consultation to a designated business unit. Uses working knowledge of the business to provide HR support and guidance. Partners directly with business leaders to define and execute HR strategies that align with business objectives and key initiatives. Analyzes trends and develops strategies to resolve HR issues and make a positive impact on business results. Leads organizational assessments that convert strategies into result-driven actions. Provides change-management support as needed. Acts as a liaison with other HR functions.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Planning:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives to align with the overall business strategy. 
  • Analyze organizational trends to improve HR practices and develop solutions.  
  • Collaborate with leadership team, offering expert advice on HR matters. 

Employee Relations & Compliance:

  • Respond to employee relation issues such as employee complaints and harassment allegations to ensure civil treatment of all employees.
  • Work with employees to resolve issues that arise by investigating and analyzing data and making recommendations for corrective action and continuous improvement.
  • Remain compliant with labor laws and regulations by staying informed of legal requirements and implementing relevant policies.
  • Recommend disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy and legal standards and administer termination meetings accordingly.

Talent Management:

  • Oversee recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring they are smooth and efficient in attracting and integrating new employees.
  • Support performance management systems by implementing and monitoring performance evaluations, feedback mechanisms, and development plans.
  • Support the establishment and retention of apprenticeship programs along with internal electrical training initiatives to develop skilled maintenance workers.
  • Foster employee engagement and retention by developing a positive and supportive work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the HR team, offering guidance, support, development opportunities, and regular performance feedback.
  • Oversee the daily functions of the HR department, ensuring streamlined operations and delivering high-quality customer service.

 

Qualifications: Competencies, Education and Experience:

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHR)

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of HR experience, with at least 5 years in related industry.
  • Utilize HR metrics to analyze performance and enhance decision-making processes.
  • Familiarity with state and federal employment legislation, policies and practices.
  • Outstanding persuasive skills.
  • Good business sense, an ability to analyze business and organizational issues to make sound judgements based on a balance of all factors, business, organizational, employee need, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and strong work ethic.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with HR software (HRIS)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Regular and reliable attendance

Preferred Experience:

  • Proficiency in Oracle HR software
  • Experience in a heavy manufacturing business

 

Working conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment in which the employee will frequently be required to:

  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Use hands to finger, handle, and feel
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Work at a desktop/laptop computer for extended periods of time
  • Use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines

The employee will occasionally be required to:

  • Stoop, twist, and carry items weighing less than 10 lbs

The talking/hearing/vision requirements are:

  • Talking and hearing in person, on the phone, and/or in a group
  • Vision to complete tasks on a computer, laptop, and with written notes

 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

Position is responsible for three (3) direct reports:

  • Human Resources Manager
  • Human Resources Specialist
  • Recruiter

 

Position Type – Work Hours – Travel Requirements:

  • Position is full time, salaried exempt.
  • Onsite presence is required.
  • Travel is expected to comprise less than 10%.
