Positions Summary 

The Systems Engineer III role would be responsible for the Systems needs of our Campus and Online infrastructure.  This position is critical to the success of our staff and students.  Reporting to the Manager, Technical Operations Engineering, they would be part of a growing team of engineers that work together to stabilize, secure, and modernize the existing environment.  They will work closely with project management, staff, and leadership to help us reach our goals, innovate, and provide exceptional support to our environment. 

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Identify needs and lead project proposals to drive modernization.
  • Facilitate collaboration efforts and be a strong escalation point for teammates.
  • Able to fully manage a project from inception to completion while documenting and communicating professionally.
  • Improve performance and resiliency of critical services across our technology landscape.
  • Highly technical and able to troubleshoot environmental issues using enterprise tools.
  • Self-started and motivated to improve themselves, our team, our company.
  • Design and implement complex solutions that are intuitive and supportable.
  • Implement monitors and reports to improve visibility of the environment.
  • Follow business practices for Change Control, Root Cause Analysis, and Incident Management.
  • Help craft, maintain, update, and follow IT driven policies and procedures.
  • Formulate plans to maintain patch management, version control, and supported baselines.
  • Assist with security identification and remediation efforts to secure our data.
  • Expert in ticket tracking, prioritization, documentation, and time management.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and/or [5] years equivalent work experience and certifications
  • Relevant certifications in Infrastructure and Systems management preferred
  • Experience with cloud technologies (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS)
  • Proficient with enterprise identity management (Okta, Microsoft, etc.)
  • Familiar with backup and Disaster Recovery implementation and best practices
  • Experience with automation and process improvement through scripting (Powershell, Terraform, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge of hypervisors, server hardware, and storage (Nutanix, VMWare, Exagrid, etc.)
  • Systems protocol concepts (DNS, SMTP, SFTP, IIS). 
  • Systems monitoring concepts (SolarWinds, Site 24x7, SumoLogic etc.)
  • Ability to understand, support and communicate senior management goals and decisions. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, synchronous and asynchronous, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to self-identify, manage, and resolve multiple complex technical issues efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with Network troubleshooting preferred, diagnosing issues across all OSI layers
  • Physical rack experience with power management, understanding UPS load and voltage
  • Server and storage network understanding, fiber interconnects management and configuration.
