POSITION SUMMARY
The Costume Intern will work with the production team on two summer Education shows by supporting the costume design process, sourcing and fabrication. The Costume Intern will assist the Costume designer. The Costume Intern will have the opportunity to meet and shadow related departments at Dr Phillips Center to learn and experience how these contribute to the operation of the show and venue.
The Costume Intern will be responsible for supporting the Production team, its initiatives, and goals. They will provide the highest level of customer service to all guests, vendors, donors, customers, and colleagues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support Costume designer with research, sourcing and the creation of costume show sheets.
- Attend departmental and show related meetings, take notes for key information
- Attend costume fittings
- Travel to local shops to purchase supplies, costumes, materials as directed
- Participate in set up, maintenance, running and reset of performances.
- Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners.
- Able to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy. Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times.
- Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms.
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary education in a related field (i.e., theatre, production, etc.)
- Backstage or show running experience. Familiarity with stage and technical theatre related terminology
- Self-motivated to drive the learning process and takes initiative to assist wherever needed
- Follows instructions well, seeking clarification when needed
- Must have excellent customer service skills, interpersonal skills and business etiquette coupled with the ability to handle challenges or difficult situations with grace, diplomacy and tact.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel). Familiarity with both Windows and MAC operating systems
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule (evenings and weekends) to meet operational needs.
- Valid Florida Driver's license preferred. Ability to travel to off-site costume shops, and stores.
