Job Summary: 

A Loss Prevention Agent will play a key role in preventing financial losscaused by theft and fraudand supporting overall store safety and security. This position requires vigilance, integrity, and the ability to confront and resolve challenging situations. Agentswill work closely with store management and be integral tothe team, ensuring a secure shopping environment through effective loss prevention strategies and practices. 

 

Essential Functions of the Position: 

  • Conduct regular and random store patrolsto identifyand deter potential theft by customers or employees. 

  • Monitor CCTV systems and review footage to investigate theft, vandalism, and other suspicious activities. 

  • Engage directly with suspects professionallyto address and resolve potential theft incidents. 

  • While much of the work is independent, it also requires close collaboration with store management, staff, and occasionally law enforcement officials to report and resolve incidents of theft and fraud. 

  • Implement and maintainloss prevention policies and procedures, adapting strategies to minimize risks. 

  • Conduct risk assessments of store operations and recommend improvements to prevent potential losses. 

  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents and loss prevention activities for store management. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge: 

  • Understanding retail or grocery store operations, including sales, inventory management, and customer service. 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern loss prevention strategies, surveillance systems, and inventory control methods. 

  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws regardingtheft, fraud, and retail security.  

  • Recognizeslegal ramifications of detaining suspects,handling evidence, and court testimony. 

 

 

 

  • Proficiencyin using surveillance technologies, including CCTV systems and alarm systems. 

  • There is a need to stay updated on the latest loss prevention techniques, security technology, and legal requirements related to the retail industry. This may involve participatingin ongoing training and professional development opportunities. 

 

Skills: 

  • Detect suspicious activities and identifypotential security risks.  

  • Strong attention to detail. 

  • Skill in investigating incidents and making calculated conclusions. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact diplomatically with suspects, customers, and employeesand writereports. 

  • Skills in de-escalating potentially volatile situations calmly and effectively. Capable ofmediatingconflicts and resolvingissues. 

 

Abilities: 

  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly, under pressure, and in ambiguous situations. 

  • Strong integrity and ethics, with the ability to handle confidential information appropriately and make decisions that reflect the company's values. 

  • Ability to adapt to changing situations, handle multiple incidents simultaneously, and operateeffectively in a dynamic retail environment. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to move around the store and stand for long periods, including walking, climbing stairs, and navigating crowded spaces. 

  • Ability to occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs., including assisting in preventingtheft and emergencies. 

  • Must possesssolid visualacuity to observesuspicious activities and monitorsecurity cameras. Auditory acuity is requiredto detect sounds indicative of theft or other emergencies. 

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operatesecurity equipment, manage handcuffs (if applicable and legally permitted), and perform tasks such as writingreports. 

  • Must have the physical stamina to patrol the store premises extensively and handle potential confrontations with suspects effectively.
