Job Title: Manager, Grocery Floating

Location: On-Site/Multi-Site (Central Valley)

Reports To: District Manager

Employee Type: Regular, Full-Time

Job Summary:

The Floating Grocery Manager manages, delegates and coordinates activities of the Grocery and Front-End departments including maximizing sales while achieving labor goals, development of staff, expense control, merchandising/displays, Grocery, Frozen Food and Dairy inventory levels, and that all applicable laws, policies and procedures are followed while insuring a friendly shopping environment for our customers and positive working conditions for our employees.

 

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Travel daily between different stores to assist where stores need help on an ad hoc basis in the central valley and northern stores
  • Makes projected weekly work plan based on projected sales; writes staffing schedules and monitors plan and makes appropriate adjustments as needed; assigns duties to employees on shift and schedules break periods; approves days off and vacation requests; makes scheduling adjustments based on business demands. 
  • Maintain all merchandising standards, display presentation, POS standards and monitors daily inventory levels.
  • Ensure appropriate merchandise stock levels, merchandise and presentations; POS signing, and assortment in all departments; ensure selling floor is adequately stocked; monitors product quality and checks for proper rotation.
  • Assigns priorities and objectives to department staff and directly assigns and supervises completion of tasks; monitors productivity of the department insuring efficiency through direct observation and review of production outputs. 
  • Review department/store trends and recommend and initiate changes for maximizing goals and objectives.
  • Listens to customer complaints, examines returned merchandise, and resolves problems to restore and promote good customer relations. Troubleshoots and chooses the appropriate course of action to correct equipment issues. Assists in training of new Team Members; coaches and motivates employees to promote a team environment. Oversees and completes monthly inventories in perimeter departments as well as quarterly full store inventories.  Performs Store Director duties in their absence as assigned. Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Makes projected weekly labor plan based on analysis from previous and projected sales; writes staffing schedules and monitors plans. 
  • Ensures company, department policy and operating procedures are followed while ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Evaluates employee performance, providing coaching and motivation to employee’s success; performs internal interviews and promotes employees as needed; administers disciplinary action making recommendations for termination as needed.
  • Listens to customer complaints, examines returned merchandise, and resolves problems to restore and promote good customer relations.
  • Provides assistance to Grocery clerk/cashiers in completing difficult sales/tasks.
  • Monitors reporting of customer and/or employee accidents, insuring accurate and timely completion of paperwork.
  • Verifies cashier and Grocery clerk/cashier’s drawer at the end of their shift.
  • Opens and closes department according to established procedures; produce necessary reports daily.
  • Administers the It’s Showtime Customer Service program and coaches, mentors and disciplines as needed to insure a pleasant shopping experience. 
  • Contacts appropriate vendors and monitors work performedto ensure all store, including front end equipment in proper working condition.
  • Makes recommendations for improving front end procedures and/or policies to the Store Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of grocery retail operations, including merchandising, inventory management, and sales forecasting.
  • Familiarity with applicable laws and regulations regarding grocery store operations.
  • Knowledge of POS systems and inventory management software.
  • Understanding of customer service best practices and strategies to enhance customer engagement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8-hour shifts.
  • Lift and carry items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, and handling products.
  • Ability to handle and operate necessary equipment and tools.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers and team members.
  • Move quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload.
  • Maintain physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment.

 

Work Conditions:

  • Work Hours: Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Environment: Indoor, climate-controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • This position requires regular travel to different store locations
  • Primary Work Stations: Work within the grocery store environments, which include various sections such as the sales floor, backrooms, and exterior areas.
  • Dress Code: Professional and presentable attire as determined by store management, including a name tag, company-issued shirts, hats, jackets, or personal shirts that are black, burgundy, or blue, in good repair, and not faded.
  • Exposure: May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals.
  • Noise Level: Usually low to moderate, with occasional loud periods from customers, store announcements, and equipment.
  • Interaction: Constant interaction with customers and team members in a fast-paced retail environment.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Over five years of experience as a Relief Manager and Person in Charge is preferred. Supervisory experience is required. Previous experience in retail is an added advantage.
