Sr. Assistant Vice President - AI Engineering, Healthcare

EXL is looking for a Senior Assistant Vice President – AI Engineering team in the US! This is a remote opportunity in Jacksonville, FL!

Role Overview:

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and forward-thinking Senior AVP – AI Engineering Leader to drive the next wave of AI transformation in Payment Integrity (PI). This role blends strategic vision, technical depth, and business acumen to reimagine how audits, rules, medical policies, and insights are automated and scaled using Agentic and Generative AI.

You will lead cross-functional teams to strategize, build, and operationalize AI solutions that create measurable value—reducing costs, accelerating audit outcomes, and modernizing how we solve healthcare challenges. This is a high-visibility leadership role, ideal for someone passionate about combining technology, domain, and design thinking to create lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities:

AI Strategy & Leadership

• Define and own the AI roadmap for the PI business aligned with growth goals ($250M to $500M).
• Lead the transition from traditional rule-based systems to Agentic AI-first workflows using LLMs, embeddings, and AI agents.
• Embed AI deeply across core workflows—claim audits, medical record navigation, rules management, and policy summarization.

Productization & Platform Enablement

• Drive the architecture and delivery of reusable AI components across Smart Platform (Smart Rules, Smart Records, Smart Alerts).
• Lead the design and scaling of document pipelines, embedding-based retrieval, and multi-agent orchestration (MCP, A2A) for complex use cases.
• Integrate Open Source, Azure OpenAI, and AWS Bedrock (Claude, Sonnet) as part of a hybrid, cost-efficient LLM stack.

Execution & Delivery Excellence

• Translate AI innovation into outcomes through agile execution, MVP builds, and business-centric prioritization.
• Partner with engineering, data, product, and delivery teams to ensure timely, secure, and scalable implementation.
• Champion privacy-first design, anonymization techniques, and compliance with HIPAA and data governance frameworks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with business leaders, audit SMEs, product managers, and clients to contextualize AI opportunities and drive adoption.
• Influence roadmap decisions by articulating the value of AI through ROI, effort-to-impact, and savings acceleration metrics.
• Build thought leadership, evangelize capabilities, and shape market perception through client conversations and external forums.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 15+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, platform product leadership, or enterprise technology roles.
• Proven track record of leading and scaling AI solutions in healthcare, fintech, or regulated industries.
• Hands-on and architectural expertise in:
• LLMs, embeddings, vector search, prompt engineering, RAG pipelines
• Cloud AI platforms: Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock (Claude, Sonnet), Ollama
• Agent orchestration frameworks: LangChain, LiteLLM, FastAPI, Python
• Secure API design, authorization/authentication (OAuth2/JWT)
• Experience with document intelligence, audit automation, or rules engines is a strong advantage.
• Exceptional leadership, storytelling, and stakeholder influence skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Deep domain knowledge in healthcare payment integrity, claims lifecycle, or medical policy interpretation.
• Experience setting up or scaling AI Centers of Excellence or reusable agent frameworks.
• Recognized speaker, patent holder, or contributor in the AI innovation space is a plus.
