560-Pest Management - 5454-560 Sr Sprayer
JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision, to operate spraying equipment, spread chemicals by hand for the control of turf and ornamental pests and perform related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Through visual inspection interprets soil, water and air conditions and determines proper types and quantities of pesticides. Recognizes and understands treatment for various causative agents of fungi and pest infestation.
Controls weeds and unwanted plant material by sprays and pre-emergence chemicals. Applies poisons for rodent control and other animal pests subject to state and federal law. Mixes pesticides and applies both preventive and curative after infestation and operates/maintains assigned equipment. Drives a truck and maintains a truck inventory of materials and supplies.
Regular attendance required. All duties are performed on-site for the Community.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Follows up on assigned written resident complaint requests, corrects problems, discusses with residents or refers to a supervisor-noting disposition.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Truck, spray rig, spreaders, shovels, traps, cages, vehicle power sprayer, bate stations and hand tank sprayers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to dust, dirt, chemical mist and normal outdoor elements. Does not work in extreme inclement weather.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational development, which produces the ability to read and apply common sense and understand how to carry out oral or written instructions. Experience in grounds maintenance work or equivalent combination of education and experience that produces the following:
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job.
- Knowledge of the work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned
equipment and operations.
- Ability to calibrate with assigned equipment.
- Ability to perform manual work requiring physical strength and stamina appropriate to the
area of assignment.
- Ability to learn the principles, practices, methods, materials and equipment included in
applications.
- Ability to read and write work-related job instructions in English.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in English.
- Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment appropriate to the nature of assignment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
- Possession of a California Structural Pest Control Board Qualified Applicator’s License (QAL).
- Ability to pass respiratory pulmonary function test and annual medical examination.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires walking for periods of up to 5 hours and standing for periods of up to 3 hours, frequent lifting of up to 25 lbs., constant grasping and pulling, frequent climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, pushing, reaching and stooping and occasional balancing and kneeling with occasionally working at heights of up to 40 feet and lifting up to 50 lbs.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Reading, routine problem solving, reasoning, verbal communications skills, customer contact.
