Position Title:  Red Shield Youth Center Program Coordinator I

Position Type: Non-Exempt - Hourly, full-time (40 hours)

Pay Range:      $19.13 - $21.00/hour

About this opportunity:

The incumbent will assist with the planning, implementing, leading, and supervising one or two program areas such as education and/or other program areas. Participates in the Salvation Army’s ministry advancement by collaborating with the Salvation Army Officers to ensure Red Shield Youth Centers provide an engaging, enriching, and empowering environment where youth develop Christ-like character, preparing them to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Operational Standards:

Ensures compliance with all Operational and Safe from Harm Standards of the Red Shield’s Youth Centers by executing all programs and activities with an elevated level of quality and demonstrates a commitment to driving impact and demonstrating outcomes that drive change.

 Qualified candidates will:

  • Train, monitor, and lead program staff, volunteers and youth members ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.
  • Perform administrative duties supporting Center operations and programs. Collaborates with operations and program leadership to ensure promotion of youth develop skills in well-rounded program areas.
  • Introduce and execute programs in a safe manner and to positively impact the lives of youth through activities and services that measurably and progressively move youth individually to attain positive educational outcomes.
  • Drive Salvation Army vehicle to transport youth members/staff to/from the Red Shield Youth Center and to/from approved community activities and events.

What are we looking for in you?

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or social services AND two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in program management, administration and operation of a youth after school center or out of school time center; OR three (3) years of experience working in a similar youth serving organization; OR any equivalent combination of education/experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The position requires afternoon, evening, and weekend work hours as scheduled.

Bon-a-fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ):

Must be over the age of 21 to drive a center vehicle to transport youth to/from the Red Shield Youth Center and for field trips.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid State Driver’s license  

Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to perform a variety of physical activities on a regular basis requiring constant motion (standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, pushing/pulling and hand-eye coordination) necessary to lead and participate in a variety of youth programming and physical activities.
  • Ability to lift (or obtain assistance lifting) moderately heavy (30-60 lbs.) program equipment following appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken words, communicating orally with others accurately and clearly.
  • Ability to drive an approved vehicle to transport youth center staff and members in a safe manner obeying all driving requirements and standards.
  • Position requires travel within the community and to participate in off-site Center events.
  • This job is performed in a youth center environment and out in the community. Time is also spent at facilities similar to youth recreational facility or community center. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and at times loud. Work sites are often located in low-income areas and challenging neighborhoods.
  • Position requires employees to occasionally work with challenging youth and family members.
