Position Title: Day Camp Worker

Position Type: Summer Parttime

 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay : $12.00 /hr. 

About this opportunity:

Greets children and parents upon arrival to the camp; leads and/or participates in leading children’s activities at the day camp including music, arts and crafts activities, sports activities and specialized programs; prepares and serves children lunch and snacks; assists in leading field trips; maintains the cleanliness of the day camp area.

  • Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.
  • Greets children and parents upon arrival to camp each morning; addresses concerns, answers questions and assist with all needs upon request.
  • Leads music, worship, crafts and sporting activities which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities to ensure intended messages and program plans are delivered.
  • Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside activities.
  • Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children mealtime encouraging conversation.
  • Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
  • Maintains the camp materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry, money and supplies necessary for camp programs.
  • Cleans the kitchen, classrooms, tables, floors, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards.
  • Answers the telephone in a professional manner; responds to questions and provides accurate information.
  • Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.); prepares copies, faxes, scans, etc. as needed.
  • Assists in leading children on field trips.
  • Ensures the accountability, security and safety of children participating in camp activities and field trips; reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.
  • Performs other related work as required.

What we are looking for in you:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required,

and

  • two years’ experience teaching child development programs,

or

  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid state driver's license
  • C.P.R. and First Aid Certification

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
  • Ability to build effective and positive relationships 
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.
  • Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
  • Work is performed in a normal camp environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
