SUMMARY OF THE JOB:
Reporting to the CRE Manager for Commercial Real Estate Lending the incumbent is responsible for the production, underwriting, and closing of investment grade and community-based commercial real estate mortgages and the administration of an assigned real estate portfolio.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The incumbent is responsible for the management of a portfolio of commercial real estate mortgages including production, underwriting, and closing of investment grade and community-based mortgages. Conducts preliminary site and market inspections to generate new commercial real estate mortgages. Negotiates loan terms, conditions and loan documents. Performs underwriting analyses and prepares written loan summaries and documents. Determines whether investments meet the company’s established risk/reward criteria. Recommends loan terms and conditions to Team Leader and Department Head and presents investments to appropriate loan committees. Manages and coordinates the closing process on each loan. Resolves problem loans and effectively manages foreclosure process. Solicits new business and develops new client relationships to attain established lending goals and objectives. Cross sells other Bank products to commercial customers, with emphasis on DDA and other non-interest-bearing accounts. Ensures compliance with loan covenants and lending guidelines. Keeps abreast of trends and developments in the real estate industry and regulatory changes. Provides guidance to less seasoned lenders. Exercises the usual managerial authority with respect to staffing, training, performance appraisal, and career development. Manages mortgage loan correspondents in assigned region.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Develops and nurtures new client relationships to attain established lending goals and objectives with potential new customers and mortgage loan correspondents.
• Nurtures and maintains effective professional relationships with existing customers, borrowers, mortgage loan correspondents, appraisers, attorneys, environmental and engineering professionals.
• Performs analysis based upon sound, quality underwriting, credit analysis, and regional market analysis.
• Negotiates loan terms, conditions, and loan documents with borrowers, correspondents, and local counsel. Manages and coordinates the closing process on each loan.
• Exercises effective management and supervisory skills in the areas of performance appraisals, counseling, career development, and other personnel-related matters. Exercises direct managerial authority for a commercial real estate underwriter and mortgage loan correspondents.
• Presents complete detailed reports and summaries of proposed loans and lending activity to applicable committees.
• Practices sound collection and workout techniques and effectively manages the disposition of REO properties.
• Cross-sells other Bank products to commercial customers with an emphasis on DDA and other non-interest-bearing accounts.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance/real estate or relevant area of study or equivalent work experience.
• Five years’ experience in commercial real estate lending, credit assessment and financial statement analysis, real estate management, appraisal and dispositions.
• MAI or CPM are desirable.
• Familiarity with FHLMC, FHA, HUD, SBA, and CDA programs.
