General Responsibilities:

 

responsible for the complete and proper recording and reporting of grants and contracts that requires specific audit compliance.

 

provide guidance and assistance to the program administrators.  Understand and communicate program requirements.  Assure that Goodwill is in compliance with the requirements.

 

Manage the department and maintain information dispersal (financial statements, daily sales reports etc.) on a timely basis. 

 

Provide leadership and function as a back-up to the Vice President of Finance.

 

Represent Goodwill in a professional manner which reflects the values (CARES+) and standards of its mission and goals.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

The candidate should have the qualifications and experience to effectively perform the following duties: 

 

  1. Management and performance of typical finance and accounting functions including accounts payable, revenue and cash receipts, payroll, inventory, debt management, fixed assets and capital projects.
  2. Developing, implementing and monitoring internal controls over financial reporting, financial recordkeeping and transaction processing
  3. Timely reconciliation of detail reports to the general ledger including bank balances and subsidiary ledgers for all control accounts. 
  4. Implementing monthly closing procedures and all required journal entries in order to generate timely internal financial reports including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and budget versus actual report, for use by management and the board of directors.
  5. Preparation of the annual financial statements and footnote disclosures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles to be audited by Goodwill’s independent audit firm. 
  6. Oversight of the external audit process including working closely with the independent audit firm to have the financial statement audit completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  7. Monitoring and administering state and federal grants to ensure compliance with program requirements; to be performed in anticipation of oversight reviews from granting agencies and possible single audit act requirements.
  8. Understand all aspects of the specific grants and contracts.
  9. Communicate with BSS and CDS departments where requirements need more fiscal attention.
  10. Collect and maintain the match information and documentation sufficient to meet all financial responsibilities.
  11. Coordinate and interface with external auditors.
  12. Provide information and advice to senior management.
  13. Assist with budget preparation and review.
  14. Assist with the preparation, review and dissemination of the monthly financial statements.
  15. Prepare, present, and explain special projects. 
  16. Function and provide guidance in the absence of the Vice President of Finance.
  17. Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Your Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 6+ years of accounting experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP

 

Education:    Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. An advanced degree and/or CPA preferred.

 

Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years in progressively responsible management in accounting field with effective leadership experience. Experience in working with disabled and disadvantaged people is desired.

 

Qualifications: Must have above average oral and written communications skills for preparation of reports and materials for publication. Must possess strong organizational, administrative, and analytical skills. Ability to effectively interface with various individuals at all levels is required. Must be familiar with corporate accounting, regulatory issues, laws, etc. governing non-profit agencies. Must have a valid South Carolina Drivers’ License.

 

Physical Requirements: Daily requirements may include sitting for extended periods of time, reaching, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, handling, lifting, pushing, and pulling as well as other generally accepted physical requirements. The associate may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

 

Safety & Security:  Report all accidents, however slight, to your supervisor immediately. Never leave the premises without reporting any accident that occurred during your working time. If you should need medical treatment during your non-work hours, you should contact your supervisor.

Work Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday – Friday or whatever hours are required to meet the professional requirements of the job.
