Position Summary

Goodwill Industries of the Upstate/Midlands (GIUMSC) is looking for a dynamic and action-oriented Vice President of Finance.  The Vice President of Finance is a senior executive responsible for overseeing our organization's financial operations and strategy. This role involves managing accounting functions, such as payables, receivables, and payroll, while ensuring compliance with financial regulations.   The position may also oversee the information technology function of the company.   Additionally, the VP of Finance also serves as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive team, analyzing financial data to guide decisions that maximize profitability and support growth.

 

Key responsibilities include:

- Developing and managing budgets.

- Preparing financial reports and forecasts.

- Overseeing investment plans and risk management.

- Ensuring compliance with tax laws and industry regulations.

- Leading financial planning and analysis to identify opportunities for efficiency and scalability.

- Responsible for the complete and proper recording of grants and contracts that require specific audit compliance.

 

This position typically requires a strong background in finance or accounting, leadership skills, and the ability to think critically and strategically.

 

The ideal candidate for the VP of Finance will possess a robust blend of strategic vision, financial acumen, and leadership skills. They should have a proven track record of driving financial performance and growth, coupled with the ability to navigate complex financial landscapes.

Reports to: CEO of Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands, SC

Location: Based out of the Greenville, SC Corporate office.  Travel throughout the sixteen counties is required.   Early morning, evening, overnight, and weekend travel may also be required.

 

Although not all-inclusive, responsibilities also include the following:

  • Extensive experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Strong leadership abilities to guide and mentor a finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
  • Strategic thinking to align financial goals with the overall business strategy, ensuring long-term sustainability and profitability
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey financial insights and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, with a keen understanding of emerging technologies and trends in finance
  • Ethical standards and integrity, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and promoting transparency
  • Provide leadership in developing and recommending annual budgets approved by the Board of Directors under the direction of the President
  • Produce financial reporting, management of assets, financial stability, liquidity and growth
  • Maintain relationships with other community organizations, government, and others deemed desirable or necessary to conform to the overall objectives and policies of Goodwill Industries.
  • Enhance the public image of GIUMSC and promote a culture that models GIUMSC’s vision, mission, and values at all times
  • Serve as a key member of GIUMSC’s executive leadership team that is committed to achieving GIUMSC’s strategic initiatives
  • To perform all other duties that may be assigned

 

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with either a Master’s Degree or CPA credentials
  • Minimum of 7 years in progressively responsible management in the accounting field with effective leadership experience. Strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting and experience in an organization with multiple revenue streams, including pledges and federal and non-federal grants preferred
  • Must have excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles, best practices, and sound techniques of finance/accounting
  • Knowledge of GAAP and other accounting principles
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other members of the leadership team, associates, and the general public
  • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
  • Displays initiative and sensitivity to differences in the workplace
  • Must have a valid and current driver’s license with limited points for violations
