This position is an on-site position at our Pasadena, CA. location

 

Summary:

On a contract basis, responsible for providing support and contributing to daily sample management and laboratory operations in the Nonclinical & Bioanalytical Development department.

 

Job Duties Include:

  • Assists in organizing, filing, aliquoting, shipping and receiving laboratory samples, specimens, and/or reagents (including cell banks)
  • Assists and supports research personnel as directed
  • May prepare buffers according to established protocols
  • May order and stock lab supplies, promptly alerting supervisory personnel of impending supply shortages and reorder amounts
  • May maintain and calibrate equipment related to function
  • Maintains and organizes compliant records and documents daily activities as directed; may document results in the electronic laboratory notebook (e.g., Benchling)
  • Communicates data or information as necessary to supervisor and/or team members
  • Maintains a clean and organized laboratory space ay be required to use data analysis packages such as SoftMax Pro, GraphPad Prism, JMP, and/or Benchling depending on assigned functional area
  • Required to use Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive) and may use Smartsheet
  • Promptly reports any work-related issues or abnormalities to supervisory staff,
  • Participates in training sessions, staff meetings, and continuing education activities as needed
  • Adheres to all department and company-wide policies regarding conduct, performance, protocols, and procedures
  • Performs other duties as required.

 

Education/Experience/Skills:

Position requires a high school diploma or GED with classes in Chemistry and Algebra are preferred; associate degree in life sciences is preferred.  Some prior related work experience is preferred.

 

Position also requires:

  • Ability to learn and proficiently use software and data analysis packages required for the job 
  • Ability to learn relevant scientific techniques (e.g., volumetric measures, calculations)
  • Ability to follow and carry out directions accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to work and be flexible in a fast-paced, goal-oriented multi-project environment
  • Detail orientation and good documentation practices, including ability to maintain detailed records and inventory
  • Strong team orientation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work alternative work schedules including weekends as necessary 
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to work in a research environment which may require contact with animals

Additional Requirements for Laboratory and Research Related Jobs

This role may involve work with experimental subjects and/or specimens including infected samples, plus various Hazardous Materials and infectious agents (Bloodborne Pathogens, or other potentially infections materials (OPIMs). Therefore, the following are also required:

  • Ability to follow the established Environmental Health & Safety rules, procedures, and/or BioSafety Guidelines
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
  • Ability to be available and willing to work some weekends and evenings to conduct and complete experiments
  • Knowledge of biosafety techniques and aseptic/gowning practices
  • Experience with laboratory safety standards and procedures, including biohazard handling and disposal techniques, and the ability to ensure laboratory compliance with required safety regulations
  • Experience working with biological and chemical hazards, infectious agents, bloodborne pathogens and animal allergens
  • Experience working in and maintaining a sterile environment
  • Experience working with chemical, and biological hazards 
  • Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of various lab equipment such as microscopes, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, and electrophoresis equipment, freezers, and incubators.

 

Expected Hourly Rate:  $20.50/hr. – 24.00/hr.
