POSITION SUMMARY

A member of site-based leadership team, the Director of Nursing partners with leaders and staff to ensure a safe, engaging patient and staff experience in an integrated primary care setting. This dynamic leader collaborates with the nursing and medical leadership team to review practices and outcomes, partnering with key stakeholders to identify and implement improvements. The Director oversees Medical Assistant staff at that location. The Director also assists with scheduling and coverage of nursing staff in Congregate Care and Northwest Village School.

 

Salary $105,000

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school plus 3 years of clinical experience providing nursing services across the lifespan to patients from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds or an Associate’s degree in nursing plus 5 years of experience. Exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Supervision or leadership experience preferred. Outpatient primary care settings experience preferred. Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Recognizes, assesses and takes immediate action in acute and crisis situations, both patient and environmental. Demonstrates ability to use critical thinking, communication, and collaboration to arrive at sound conclusions.

Proficient in OSHA standards, including those for Blood Borne Pathogens, at all times. Identifies potential safety hazards and takes action to remedy these situations. Proficient in infection control basics, plays an active role in ensuring infection control plan is enforced. Responds to and mitigates local infection control needs, as necessary.

In partnership with the Senior Director of Nursing, Quality Department, and other organizational leadership, assists in ensuring location is in a constant state of regulatory readiness based on the regulatory requirements of the various accreditations, licenses, and contracts.  

Monitors and evaluates nursing practice to assure that safe, high quality patient care service is delivered according to established standards, including state and federal regulations. Addresses patient concerns/complaints with courtesy and respect. Recognizes and requests assistance when appropriate to arrive at resolution.

Collaborates with Senior Director of Health Center Operations on interviewing, hiring of personnel, and ongoing development of nursing and medical assistant staff. Has primary responsibility for orienting nursing staff and medical assistants.

Oversees and is responsible for ongoing scheduling of nursing and medical assistant staff.

Monitors compliance with clinical performance standards.

Writes evaluations on nursing and medical assistant staff. Assists staff in developing and achieving performance development goals and plans.

Collaborates with the SD of HCO and SD of Nursing in reviewing incident reports and complaints to assess trends and risk factors. Takes action to correct and educate staff accordingly. Follows up on all incident reports and takes necessary action to educate staff in a timely manner.

Provides direct nursing care across the lifespan to patients for up to 20 percent of their time.

Must be able to pass a respirator fit test at time of hire and on an annual basis.

Documents patient care services by accurately charting in electronic medical records.

Participates in and contributes to regular staff meetings focused on coordinating care within an interdisciplinary team.

Performs job responsibilities consistent with standards for best practice nursing, including excellent communication with all team members to ensure the delivery of high quality care.
