Journeyman H.D. Mechanic
Job Title: Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic
Job Description: The employee in this classification is responsible for the mechanical repair and maintenance of a variety of heavy mobile equipment, the mining equipment, the rail locomotive, rolling stock and vehicles assigned to the shift in a continuous mining.
Duties and Responsibilities: Typical, but not inclusive, duties are as follows:
- To diagnose all malfunctions and to carry out planned and period safety and preventative maintenance inspections and servicing.
- To repair gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, planetary drives, and any hydraulic and air actuated equipment, etc...
- To repair track and align wheels and frames , replace brake linings, perform motor tune-ups, repair and replace vehicle electrical apparatus and accessories, railroad equipment when applicable.
- To setup hoisting equipment and facilities for the instillation and/or removal of heavy attachments
- To inspect and test repaired equipment or ensure safe and efficient operation and to assist in the investigation of accidents that may be attributable to mechanical defects
- To requisition parts and supplies to maintain service and repair records and to report man-hours and materials user, troubles encounters, and corrective measures taken.
- The incumbent will also perform other related and assigned duties associated with the overall mining operation, as well as to provide training to apprentices and work
Qualifications: Saskatchewan or Interprovincial Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate. Must be physically fit and must have the ability to co-operate and work effectively with other employees. Must possess a valid Class 3A Driver's License.
Working Conditions: This job involves working on a 7 day alternating or rotating shift basis on a remote mine site. Must be willing to provide own transportation and living accommodations. Employee is required to work 12 or 8 hour shifts on a rotating day and night crew. Position is located on a mine site so the employee will be working in an environment that is susceptible to the weather. A combination of indoor and outdoor work is required for this classification. Employee will receive two 10 minute breaks and a 20 minute meal break for every shift 8 hour shift and two 15 minute breaks and a half hour meal break for every 12 hour shift.
