What you’ll do:
The Manager of Ground Transportation is responsible for overseeing and managing the operational and administrative activity of our Ground Transportation team. This includes supervising and leading employees, managing fleet operations to ensure efficiency and compliance, and driving financial performance through strategic planning and P&L management. Additionally, the role is responsible for optimizing fleet utilization, collaborating with planners, agency leadership, and drivers to maximize revenue, and ensuring high-quality service for agents and customers.
Responsibilities:
- Develops process improvements and identifies best practices for operations group
- Develops and monitors a closed-loop process to assure that customers are properly invoiced and providers are compensated
- Establishes, monitors, and tracks internal and external performance metrics, including key performance indicators (KPIs), to drive operational excellence and achieve budgetary goals
- Responsible for meeting or exceeding budgeted new revenue and profit margin goals
- Manages van operator retention, qualifications, and recruitment while overseeing operational needs, maintenance, and issue resolution
- Provides quotes to agent or direct customers as required
- Works closely with Agency stakeholders on new orders or orders in transit, while advising on process and procedures
- Acts as liaison between other UniGroup business segments and agency family
- Oversees staff and contracted fleet development, providing training and cross-training to ensure seamless operations and support future growth
- Facilitates new customer and system implementations while providing account management support to ensure exceptional service
- Serves as an advocate for customers and stakeholders, collaborating closely with account management to ensure seamless execution
- Handles other assigned tasks to support the department
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline or equivalent related experience
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in transportation or logistics
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with drivers, agents, customers, and internal teams; Comfortable delivering both positive and challenging news with professionalism.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities and keep operations running smoothly.
- A solution-oriented mindset with sound decision-making skills, balancing customer needs, operational efficiency, and financial impact.
- Leadership experience in transportation, logistics, fleet management, or operations with a focus on coaching and developing teams.
- Proven financial acumen, including P&L management, budgeting, and performance metrics.
- Ability to build trusted relationships across departments while working closely with agents and van operators to align fleet operations with business goals.
- A customer-first approach, advocating for the needs of customers, agents, and van operators to ensure service excellence.
- A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on driving operational efficiency and service quality and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
