About this opportunity:

Answers the telephone and directs calls to the appropriate destination; records accurate and complete messages when necessary; receives and completes receipts for deliveries and donations when applicable; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides general information about The Salvation Army’s operations and services; performs routine clerical work such as typing and filing.

 

Provides social service assistance to eligible clients in the following areas; food, lodging, and financial aid; interviews clients to determine need and eligibility to receive services; completes accurate HMIS information intake forms and enters them in the database; prepares and retains accurate and complete clients assistance records; refers clients to community partners/agencies and maintains effective working relationships with the same; ensure compliance with program policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities:

  • Receives, greets, and announces visitors courteously and tactfully; assists callers and visitors by answering questions and providing instructions and referrals; screens sales representatives soliciting to The Salvation Army.
  • Greets and interviews clients requesting assistance to determine client’s eligibility for service based on program guidelines and restrictions; completes and enters HMIS intake information; records clients’ disposition and other pertinent information such as income, expenses, family and work history; assists clients in completing applications for assistance; photocopies social security cards, picture identification cards, payroll statements, utility bills, and any other necessary back-up for services.
  • Prepares and files client records promptly, ensuring all information is accurate and current; obtains clients’ signatures as needed; reviews and tracks all client records to determine if the client is active or inactive; maintains confidentiality of client information.
  • Prepares and maintains statistical records on all services provided; completes and prepares monthly statistical reports; promptly ensures accuracy and completeness; offers statistical information for monthly data entry.
  • Types and files routine correspondence, documents, lists, reports, etc., on behalf of the Corps Officer.
  • May serve as coordinator for a specific program such as senior citizens or food programs; plan and coordinate program arrangements; set up program meeting area; ensure program clients are served effectively.
  • Performs related work for special and seasonal projects.

 

 What we are looking for in you:

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a related field, and two years’ experience in office administration.

 

OR

 

  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (less than 25 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment.  Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by sitting, standing, walking, and primarily sitting.  Work is performed in a typical office environment where there are little to no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like; some face-to-face contact with people experiencing homelessness or less fortunate may present health and safety issues, or combative situations.
