About this opportunity:

Plans, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of all assigned Thrift Stores; supervises Thrift Store staff including Managers, Store Clerks, Production Staff, and Transportation staff.  Develops improvements in store operations in order to meet sales goals.  Supervises and ensures accountability of donations and sales receipts.  Coordinates the maintenance and repair of thrift store facilities and vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be well-versed in, and ensure compliance to, Guide to Family Store & Donation Centers Operations manual and all other Salvation Army policies and procedure manuals including verbal and written warnings.
  • Formulates a business plan for the stores that sets realistic goals for sales, donations and voucher disbursements, based on figures from prior years of operation; ensures that plans include obtainable goals for growth for the next three years.
  • Supervises store employees, beneficiaries, and volunteers through hands-on management of the sales floor and warehouse areas; makes hiring decisions and ensures that all positions are appropriately covered; trains staff in the proper methods and procedures for performing work; conducts performance evaluations and makes salary increase recommendations.
  • Establishes and maintains a system to ensure the accounting for all donations received at the Thrift Stores; supervises the Dispatcher to ensure that goods from donors are picked up in a timely manner and that accurate records are kept concerning what the donor said was to be picked up and what was actually received.
  • Manages the ordering of Thrift Store sales, maintenance, and office supplies; ensures that major orders are approved by the Development Director.
  • Maintains a professional retail atmosphere with all merchandise displayed in an attractive manner; trains employees to become salespersons, helping the customer to find the items they are seeking; makes every effort to enhance the public image of The Salvation Army.

 

What we are looking for in you:

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License

 

Education and Experience:

  • Two-year college or technical school degree in Business Management or a related field, AND

 

  • Five years progressively responsible experience supervising thrift store operations, OR

 

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to perform mathematical computations.

Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 50 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather.
