Paralegal - Litigation
Location: Territorial Headquarters, Atlanta, GA
About this opportunity:
This position is responsible for Researching, analyzing, tracking, and managing the workflow process associated with legal cases, mediations, Agency complaints, arbitration proceedings, and any other legal process/proceeding. Reviews billable hours by case and ensures that they are properly invoiced. Compiles legal documents from various sources for multiple cases. Prepares trial records and ensures legal proceeding deadlines are met. Analyzes incoming legal documents. Assists Divisions in communications with outside attorneys. Compiles all pleadings filed with the courts.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepares pleadings and responses, updates files within the internal database, manages the calendar for legal matters, organizes legal files, corresponds with the clerks of court, corresponds with Divisions and external legal counsel, ensures the legal department and Divisions are following internal procedures, collaborates with internal and external legal counsel and other team members as necessary, schedules mediation and/or hearings, notifies Territorial Legal Director, Assistant Legal Director, and Legal Administrator of approaching deadlines, attends weekly meetings and updates attorneys and Legal Administrator of active matters, and performs e-discovery.
- Updates interim status reports to the Territorial Legal Director, Assistant Territorial Legal Director/In-House Counsel, and field units.
- Reviews some litigation matters that pertain to the estate or trust in order to determine The Salvation Army’s interest and whether escalation of the matter to the Assistant Territorial Legal Director/In-House Counsel is appropriate.
What we are looking for in you:
- Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or closely related field with three (3) years of relevant work experience in a professional environment as a paralegal, litigation experience preferred, and court room experience required.
or
- Associate’s degree required with five (5) years of relevant work experience in a professional environment as a paralegal, litigation experience preferred.
or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications/Licenses
Paralegal Certification preferred
Valid State Driver’s License
Notary Public preferred.

Knowledge of accepted practices and techniques involved in budget and report preparation and/or recordkeeping.
Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to gather, compile, and assemble information into a final product for letters, records, reports, etc.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
Ability to determine the most effective and efficient method to accomplish work objectives and goals and to work under limited supervision.
Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the department.
Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines and meet attendance requirements.
Ability to prepare spreadsheets and maintain computer databases.
Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items can be retrieved in a timely manner.
Ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with employees at Territorial Headquarters and throughout the Southern Territory.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language, sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically.
Ability to manipulate numbers and perform routine computations.
Ability to keypunch information into a computer.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
Must be able to travel.
