Sports & Recreation Coordinator
Location: The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center
About this opportunity:
This position subscribes to, adheres to, and shares the Doctrines, Mission, and Positions of The Salvation Army Serves as an evangelist to the community and constituency of the Corps; develops and leads worship services and ministerial programs; provides spiritual guidance and leadership to the same. Serve the Corps by assisting the Corps Officer in planning, coordinating, administrating, monitoring, evaluating, and developing the day-to-day operations of the Corps; develops and leads religious programs; participates in social service programs providing assistance to people in need; coordinates arrangements for seasonal programs and recruits/supervises volunteers for the same; Supervises and schedules Corps groups, community outreach programs, and social service work; monitors and maintains adequate financing and budgetary compliance of the Corps operations. Participates in providing assistance to people in need.
Key responsibilities
- Works closely with Kroc Center Management, and community program partners in developing programs for the RJKCCC based upon ongoing needs assessment and business plan;
- Develops working relationship with community partners, and area clubs;
- Coordinates and works with program staff and community partners to coordinate and supervise the gym, athletic field and intramural sports programs that will be offered in the program guide; work in cooperation with other staff to coordinate essential space planning;
- Incorporates athletic programs to include wellness and fitness into the gym and intramural sports schedule which unites believers and non-believers with the direct goal of spreading the Christian message through group interactions;
- Plans and manages the daily activities of the gymnasium and athletic fields to include adult and teen intramural sports teams and children's sports teams, wellness and fitness ensuring that the mission of The Salvation Army is a top priority in all areas and activities;
- Coordinates and works with the Kroc Center Leadership in evaluating the health and fitness programs offered at the Kroc Center;
- Creates and maintains an office system that will allow for accurate record keeping of program staff, volunteers, and participants;
- Attends all scheduled staff meetings and management team meetings when directed by the Kroc Center Administrator; Establishes and maintains equipment checkout procedures to include inspections pre and post usage; responsible for discarding equipment according to policies and procedures of:TSA RJKCCC.
- Plans and implements all recreation camp and wellness programs within the Kroc Center
- Maintains equipment and storage in an orderly fashion as well as an inviting environment for the community at large
- Assists in preparing program and league promotional materials
- Supervises and manages scheduling of the Gym Attendants, volunteer staff, Community Center Aides and Fitness vendors
- Ensures that all equipment assigned to the gym and athletic fields are maintained and properly inventoried on a regular basis;
- Maintains and enforces guidelines related to the gym
- Maintains tracking systems that will allow for timely and accurate record keeping, including areas statistical reports, volunteer activity, accounting of expenditures and other reporting as required;
- Maintains an accurate calendar of events and daily schedule of the gymnasium/athletic field usage both by private and on-site programs;
- Complies, enforces and ensures adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures
What we are looking for in you:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, and
- Three years’ experience, and
- Proficiency with Windows & Microsoft Office, which includes Microsoft Word and Excel.
- OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- First Aid and CPR Certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to bend, squat, twist, and stand, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position; Ability to meet the demands of the gymnasium, athletic field and wellness and fitness programs; Ability to lift to 75 lbs. on a regular basis; Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (50-100+ lbs.) on an infrequent basis with appropriate tools and safety equipment; Duties are usually performed standing or seated.-Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Fair amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
