Staff Accountant
Location: Central Virginia Area Command – Richmond, VA
Position Type: Regular, Full-Time
Pay Range: $24.54 - $30.67
About this opportunity:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Accountant, the Staff Accountant performs accounting functions and financial analysis for the Central Virginia Area Command (CVAC). The incumbent will perform transactional and analytical accounting functions; process accounts payable, and accounts receivable; and perform basic accounting functions to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, posting, verifying entries, recognizing and recording income, issuing disbursements, balancing and reconciling accounts; reconciling bank statements and preparing financial statements in order to properly record and maintain financial records.
Key responsibilities:
- Monitor/implement guidelines of accounts payable; prepare transactions for Sage Intacct; process checks and reconcile data; maintain current payable status.
- Prepare cash receipts and invoices for daily, monthly transactions.
- Reviews and approves daily accounting transactions as it relates to receivables, bank transactions and journal entries; performs account reconciliations and general ledger review on a regular basis.
- Assist with monthly and fiscal year-end closing process and reconciliation of general ledger accounts and subledgers; proofs entries to verify accuracy and completeness; prepare journal entries, balances accounts and prepares reports.
What we are looking for in you:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business or related field, and one (1) years’ experience utilizing a computerized accounting system (Sage Intacct preferred) with exposure to double-entry fund accounting; OR
- Five years of equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to keypunch information into a computer. Ability to sort and file documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to perform routine and complex mathematical computations repeatedly, rapidly and accurately. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a computer and 10-key calculator. Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines. Ability to follow instructions and work independently with limited supervision. Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
