About this opportunity:
Assists the Service Center Director in the planning, directing and participating in the day-to-day operation, management, and maintenance of a Salvation Army Service Center including a Thrift Store, assists with the management of a team of staff and volunteers, participates in screening and providing services to clients, in the absence of the director represents The Salvation Army in the community, assists in the monitoring of the receipt and processing of Thrift Store donations, ensures merchandise is properly
priced and rotated in order to maximize store sales.
Key responsibilities:
- Assists in the planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising in the day- to-day operation of a Salvation Army Service Center and Thrift Store, ensures compliance with established policies and procedures, develops, and implements improvements in operations in order to maximize service to the community.
- Assists the Service Center Director in supervising, scheduling, and evaluating the work performed by Service Center and Thrift store staff and volunteers, trains staff and volunteers in the proper procedures for performing work, inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, conducts performance evaluations of staff.
- Coordinates the cleanliness of the Service Center and Thrift Store equipment and facilities, ensures all equipment is properly maintained, notifies the director if maintenance and repair work need to be given to contractors when needed.
- Receives and receipts all donations, sorts and stocks merchandise, coordinates and monitors the rotation system of merchandise and directs the pricing of merchandise in order to maximize store sales.
- In the absence of the director prepares and makes daily sales deposits for the Thrift Store, ensures the security and accountability of all store funds.
- Interviews clients in order to determine needs and provide appropriate assistance and referrals.
- Maintains up-to-date social service case history files on all clients; maintains the confidentiality of the same.
- Discuss with the Director any proposed changes effecting the operations.
- In the event of a disaster immediately notify the Divisional Disaster Coordinator at DHQ.
- Ensures the Service Center office and store is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Picks-up and delivers mail to the post office daily as needed.
What we are looking for in you:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- And two (2) years’ experience performing progressively responsible social service work with supervisory and bookkeeping responsibilities,
or
- any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
- abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations.
- Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
- Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
