Location:  Kentucky/Tennessee Divisional Headquarters – Louisville, KY                  

About this opportunity:

 

Oversees, promotes, and coordinates Salvation Army programs and services in communities where there is no Salvation Army facility or Officer assigned throughout the Kentucky-Tennessee Division; recruits and trains committee members and Service Center/Unit leadership employees; plans, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates all store sales to reach financial goals; Directs and monitors volunteer committees to plan, coordinate and implement fundraising activities and public relations plans to carry out a year-round program of service designed to assist in meeting the needs of the less fortunate in that community; conducts annual audits of each units/centers services; conducts regular visits of each unit; performs public speaking for community service groups and works to build effective working relationships with community leaders; Provides preliminary assessment of the potential for viable congregational ministry by The Army in the community.

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Maintains an active supervisory role in the overall operation of the Service Extension Center/Unit and Family stores; recruits and trains Service Center leadership employees; conducts performance evaluations; provides constructive and positive feedback to employees to improve productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness.

 

  • Works closely with Advisory Board members of each Service Center/Unit to promote community awareness of The Salvation Army programs; attends regularly scheduled monthly Advisory Board meetings for Service Centers. Recruits and trains new or replacement Advisory Committee members.   

 

  • Preparation and oversight of annual budgets and year-end FASB reports. Works with finance to reduce and clear debts of each Service Center; negotiates with the divisional headquarters finance team to lower costs and requirements of location debts of each Service Center.

 

  • Prepares long and short-range plans for the family stores based on location, customer base, and sales history; develops milestones with the Service Center supervisors to ensure success; recommends corrective action where necessary.

 

  • Develops and/or reviews weekly and monthly production goals for each store; conducts follow-up to ensure goals are satisfied; provides recommendations and feedback to guarantee continued success.

 

  • Supervises the planning and implementation of special programs such as Volunteer Banquets, Retirements, Annual Christmas Dinners/Luncheons. Plans, coordinates, and monitors fundraising efforts and activities of all assigned service units/Centers.

 

What we are looking for in you:

 

  • Ability to perform long and short-range planning.

 

  • Ability to prepare and manage operating budgets.

 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, or a related field  

 

  • Five years’ experience providing leadership in a community service and/or retail environment

 

  • Equivalent combination of training and experience provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

Valid Driver’s License Required

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

 

Ability to travel throughout the Kentucky and Tennessee Division to Service Centers throughout the division, overnight, when necessary.  Ability to lift, carry, and/or push/pull moderately (50 - 100 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment.   Heavy mobility is usually performed by standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise.
