Experienced HVAC Technician

Location: Lynchburg, VA Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM (with rotating weekend on-call duty, approximately one weekend per month)

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated HVAC Technician to ensure the optimal comfort and safety of our campus community.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and experienced HVAC Technician to join our Facilities team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across our campus. Your expertise will be vital in creating a comfortable and conducive atmosphere for our students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on all HVAC systems, including but not limited to boilers, chillers, air handlers, pumps, VAV boxes, and refrigeration units.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot complex HVAC system issues and perform necessary repairs efficiently and effectively.
• Install new HVAC equipment and components as needed, ensuring compliance with all codes and standards.
• Monitor and adjust building management systems (BMS) for optimal performance and energy efficiency.
• Conduct regular inspections of HVAC systems and components to identify potential problems and recommend solutions.
• Respond promptly to emergency service calls, including during your rotating weekend on-call shifts.
• Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
• Collaborate with other facilities staff and external contractors as required.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and school policies.

What We're Looking For

• Proven Experience: Minimum of 3yrs of hands-on experience as an HVAC Technician, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of HVAC principles, electrical systems, plumbing, and refrigeration cycles.
• Certifications: EPA Section 608 Universal certification is required. Relevant state licenses (e.g., HVAC Journeyman or Master license) preferred.
• Troubleshooting Skills: Excellent diagnostic abilities to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
• Problem-Solving: Proactive and resourceful in finding solutions to unexpected challenges.
• Independence & Teamwork: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with a team.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, students, and vendors.
• Physical Demands: Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, work in various weather conditions, and access confined spaces as needed.
• Availability: Must be available to work the Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM schedule and participate in the rotating weekend on-call rotation.
• Background Check: Successful completion of a comprehensive background check is required.
