Service Flag Tech - Diesel Technician

Job Summary:
As Diesel Technician you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing routine maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles, including trucks, and vans. You will work closely with the service department to ensure that all diesel engines and systems are performing at optimal levels, meeting both safety and quality standards.
Essential Functions:
- Perform thorough diagnostics on diesel engines, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
- Identify issues with engines, drivetrains, brakes, fuel systems, exhaust, and other components.
- Conduct tests and inspections on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Repair or replace faulty components, such as injectors, turbos, fuel pumps, and transmissions.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
- Conduct regular inspections of diesel-powered vehicles to identify wear and tear, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
- Provide preventative maintenance services to extend the life of diesel engines and vehicles.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning parts, including diesel engine components, transmissions, fuel systems, and cooling systems.
- Use specialized diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues and make repairs.
- Work with a variety of diesel-powered vehicles, such as trucks, buses, construction machinery, and agricultural equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, and parts used.
- Provide detailed reports to supervisors and customers regarding the work completed and any additional issues discovered.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain compliance with local and national environmental regulations.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding their diesel-powered vehicles' issues and recommended repairs.
- Advise customers on maintenance needs and repair options based on diagnostic findings.
- Provide high-quality customer service by addressing concerns and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with other technicians, service advisors, and parts personnel to ensure efficient repairs and maintenance.
- Assist in training and mentoring less experienced technicians.
- Collaborate with team members to improve processes and ensure timely job completion.
- Maintain satisfactory attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years of hands-on experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and related systems.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record; required to have California driver's license within 10 days following date of hire.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical automotive certifications or Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications or equivalent technical training.
- Experience working with a variety of diesel-powered vehicles (trucks, buses, heavy machinery, etc.).
- Strong understanding of diesel engine components and systems.
- Experience in dealership setting.
- Proficiency with automotive diagnostic tools and software.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical Demands:
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and work in various positions (e.g., bending, kneeling) for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and small parts.
- Ability to frequently lift 30 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work in tight spaces.
- Frequently bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
Environment/Noise:
- Exposure to hazardous conditions and equipment that may result in minor injuries.
- Frequent use of protective gear such as goggles and earplugs.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, something in cramped spaces and awkward positions.
- Regular exposure to contaminants such as antifreeze and chemical degreasers.
- Work in close proximity to other technicians and mechanics.
