As the Application Engineer for Protection, you will lead the technical customer support in a certain segment of the Protection market globally. Together with the protection team and our customers you will focus on upgrading strategies to build and develop the customers in the market. 

About the position

You are building and implementing the Global Strategy for Specialty products, Protection, together with the Sales Director for Protection. Practically the strategy implementation consists of building application segment knowledge, training and focusing the work in connection with Tech Support Manager and Area Sales Manager, USA. You are expected to build personal relationships with the most important Key Accounts in the Region and drive the development agenda on a strategic level with these. Knowledge sharing and discussion across technical team is expected.

 

You will work tight together with sales and the mill-based teams of product & market development and secure that we strengthen the technical and market competencies in your team as well as in the sales team. You will be deeply involved in complex sales for SSAB’s world leading products with focus on Armox® and Ramor® to both existing and new customers with a strong focus on creating long-lasting customer relationships. Your location is in the USA and working area is South, Central and North America. You will report to Tech Support Manager, Protection.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • On a strategic and tactical level develop and execute productivity improvements, optimization, cost savings, empirical testing and upgrading of Protection portfolio in America’s Sales Area.
  • Development of your team and your work processes in a spirit of continuous improvement based on the SSAB One philosophy with extreme focus on safety.
  • Support strategic goals for the region together with the TSM & ASM and break these down into relevant and concrete development activities.
  • Independently set up and lead the necessary testing programs needed to extend SSAB knowledge in your selected field of expertise to further develop our network of specialists within the team.
  • Project management of application development projects in the market.
  • Technical Support of Sales in your geographical area – extensive traveling is required. Main contact to US Steel Mills for Technical Team.

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Department of Defense Clearance
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution, or a comparable combination of education and experience (could include application, product or market development)
  • 2 - 4+ years of proven experience within the protection industry
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate and present to internal and external customers
  • Extremely organized and able to perform work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Strong attention to details, analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
  • Current/active driver’s license
  • This role involves weekly travel throughout the Americas and occasional trips to Europe
  • Protection/Defense industry experience is appreciated
