Safety Assistant

The Safety Assistant provides administrative support to the Manager, Safety & Security as well as to the other Safety Department staff. This support includes report preparation, data gathering and management of safety database systems. The position is on site.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and maintenance of digital safety processes and documentation
- Create and maintain incident/accident files, including reporting potential worker’s compensation (WC) cases to WC insurance carrier.
- Maintain and compile OSHA safety documentation, including annual OSHA report for the facility.
- Prepare and deliver monthly safety performance reports using Power BI for SSAB Specialist Steel Management and maintain accurate statistics for presentation to internal and external safety committees where SSAB Safety is represented.
- Maintain and update safety records, logs and compliance documentation, including Safety Management System Documents.
- Schedule and coordinate safety meetings, audits and training sessions
- Coordinate and report contractor labor hours to the Safety Manager for monthly reporting and assist in managing contractor compliance through the Avetta Contractor Management System.
About You
- 3 years minimum experience in an Administrative Assistant role
- Experience supporting digitalization of administrative processes.
- Familiar with data analysis and AI tools
- Excellent computer and data base management skills (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Good organizational skills with the ability to trouble shoot, multitask and prioritize.
Preferred
- Maintenance Connection experience
- Experience with any Incident Reporting System
- Experience with Contractor Management System
- Experience with any LMS Training System
- Degree in any discipline (Safety ideal)
