Cash Applications Clerk

POSITION PURPOSE
To apply funds received from customers in an accurate and in a timely manner and communicate the cash received to the credit department and management. To serve as backup for other positions within Shared Services. To perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cash Applications
- Apply customer payments to open invoices in SAP & SAP B1.
- Obtain lockbox receipt images and wire information from all SSAB banks.
- Download cash receipt information in applicable shared services directory files.
- Update the daily cash excel report and distribute along with the lockbox receipt images to department.
- Apply Cash to open receivables correctly, completely and within 24 hours of receipt. This includes setting up debit memos, short pays and overpayments in the system.
- Correct any cash receipts errors identified from the Daily Cash Balancing process immediately upon notification.
- Document customer deductions and overpayments on customer remittances.
- Scan support into applicable directory for future reference.
- Email customer deductions and overpayments to applicable Credit Analyst.
- Assist Credit Analysts in identifying the reason for the short pays.
- Perform offsets timely (within 2 Days) and accurately when requested by the credit department.
- Research previously applied cash and offsets as requested by the Senior Credit Analysts.
- Apply corporate cash when received into the banks.
- Ability to analyze, research and resolve discrepancies is required.
- Maintain policies and procedures for Cash Applications.

- Enter journal entries into the general ledger accurately and timely. Clerk will review data entry to the source document for data accuracy prior to submitting to Corporate Accounting for posting to GL.

- Various administrative duties of copying, faxing, mailing, filing and other duties as requested by management.

- Organize and print SAP, Workflow and mainframe reports as needed by the department.

- Manage lockbox maintenance - assign and reassign new lockboxes to customers as needed to ensure information mailings are sent to appropriate customers.
- Respond to external auditor requests for information. Including making copies of checks, remittance advices, and bank statements.
- Act in a back-up capacity for other Shared Services positions as required.
- Other duties as requested by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies and Experience
Required:
- Basic to intermediate excel skills
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written with the ability to maintain a professional approach at all times.
- Ability to work well as part of a team environment, with a comfort level working independently as required.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong keyboarding skills to include10-key and data entry experience
- Desire and commitment to working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
Preferred:
- Two (2) years previous Accounts Payable, Cash Applications and Accounts Receivable (Commercial) experience.
Education

- High School Education / GED
