CAD Operator -Northport, Alabama

Job purpose
To work with CAD systems creating, modifying and releasing drawings and word drawings under direct supervision of a supervisor for use by other departments and customers. The AutoCAD operator must represent the company with quality and timely deliverables and must always know and understand the customer’s objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
- Provide quality drawings and improve the methods which increase efficiency in the production of those drawings as it generates revenue by saving cost and time
- Responsible for maintaining effective communication, efficient collaboration and coordination, and working relationships with external clients, customers, and contractors; to include working closely with internal departments/customers to maintain schedules, implement changes and revisions in operational procedures
- Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment
- Generate CAD models, drawings, and, design documents working from sketches, verbal concept descriptions, actual prototypes, marked-up drawings, and/or vendor information
- Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed
- Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems
- Identify new ways to improve assembly efficiency and product quality in a fast-paced, highly diverse production environment where many times the initial prototype is the final deliverable
- Assist production project leads and staff in managing BOMs (Bill of Materials), configuration management, change management, and part identification and procurement
- Perform document checking on non-complicated drawings developed by others
- Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organizations goals
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
- Degree from a recognized CAD Training Facility, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
- 2 - 3+ years of experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD &/or nesting
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices; to include, a high degree of organization and efficiency, customer focus, and innovative problem solving skills
- Strong analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, able to delegate, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
- Keen understanding of best mechanical design for fabrication practices (dimensioning, tolerancing, machining practices, etc.)
- Maintains good public relations by displaying an attitude of dedication, courtesy and professional competence that will be recognized as such by customers (internal and external)
- Bilingual in both official languages, orally & written (depending on location)
- Current/active driver’s license
