Position Overview:
Park Maitland School seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Drama Teacher to lead dynamic, engaging drama instruction for elementary-aged students. The ideal candidate has prior teaching experience and a passion for fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration through the performing arts. Experience in technical theater is highly preferred to support school productions and enhance the overall drama program.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality drama instruction to students in elementary grades.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages self-expression and teamwork.
  • Develop students' skills in acting, improvisation, movement, and vocal performance.
  • Direct and produce school performances, including plays, showcases, and assemblies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate drama into interdisciplinary projects when appropriate.
  • Manage rehearsals, costumes, props, and sets for performances.
  • Provide instruction or support in technical theater elements (e.g., lighting, sound, set design) as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, and school leadership regarding student progress and upcoming events.
  • Foster a love for the arts while maintaining high expectations for student learning and behavior.
  • Participate fully in the life of the school, including meetings, events, and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Drama Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Prior experience teaching drama, preferably at the elementary level.
  • Experience and/or training in technical theater (lighting, sound, set design).
  • Strong classroom management skills and a nurturing, supportive approach to young learners.
  • Ability to organize and manage all aspects of school performances.
