Academic Advisor- Remote
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The Academic Advisor works as part of the Enrollment Team to support students. The Academic Advisor is the point person for a student's enrollment and is responsible for monitoring student academic pacing and progress in accordance with Laurel Springs’ policies and expectations and communicating with the students and their families. The Academic Advisor also reviews prospective and current students’ academic records and collaborates with other LSS staff to ensure the students are correctly placed in courses. The Academic Advisor is also responsible for supporting retention efforts and assisting families with the re-enrollment process.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Laurel Springs School is seeking an experienced, student-centered Academic Advisor to support families through every stage of the enrollment journey in our online learning environment. The ideal candidate is a proactive communicator with strong customer service skills and an understanding of student success strategies and family engagement in a virtual setting. This role is highly collaborative, working closely with school counselors, teachers, and the Enrollment Team to guide students in monitoring pacing and progress and foster long-term retention through meaningful relationships. This is a full-time, 12-month remote position that requires availability during business hours (Eastern Time) to support onboarding, record review, student communications, schedule adjustments, re-enrollment, and team collaboration via meetings and individual family appointments.
JOB DUTIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Collect and/or review records and transcripts of incoming students, to assist with the creation of accurate and complete course schedules for admission.
- Develop initial course schedules and/or assist LSS counselors with developing initial course schedules (dependent on assigned grade span).
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students and parents/guardians through meaningful, personalized, frequent communications throughout enrollment via email, phone, one-on-one video conferencing, and in-person opportunities as assigned or available.
- Actively troubleshoot and assist students and families with challenges encountered during enrollment and/or re-enrollment.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure students receive the highest level of support, playing a critical role in student acquisition and retention.
- Engage in weekly collaboration sessions with academic teams, student support teams and counselors with a focus on student support and success.
- Process schedule changes and extensions throughout enrollment.
- Participate collaboratively and professionally in school-wide meetings, events, communications and activities, both online and in person, with some required evening virtual events.
- Engage in ongoing professional development (internal and external), practice self-assessment, and strive for continuous improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and staff as well as LSS management and operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an academic setting supporting students.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Excellent skills with word processing, productivity, communication, and educational technology tools; expertise with G-Suite, Learning Management Systems, and Student Information Systems strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, interpretive, evaluative, and constructive thinking, and organizational skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Access to dependable and high-quality internet and a quiet work space that allows the Student Support Manager to be fully present and available to students, parents, and colleagues as needed during work hours (Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 5pm ET).
- TRAVEL: Employees in this role may be required to periodically travel by air or motor vehicle for required training or in-person events.
- This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position in which the employee may be required to work more than 40 hours a week.
