SPATCO is looking for an energetic Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This person will work in SPATCO's DEF Solutions is a fully integrated provider of storage and dispensing equipment for fleets of all sizes and vocations. Our DEF division is one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of proven, reliable storage and dispensing equipment. As an Engineer joining the Greenville team, you will take an active role in the support and development of our DEF line of products.
Engineering Department Summary: The primary responsibility of the engineering department at SPATCO DEF Solutions is to design, improve, and implement mechanical structures, electrical components, and industrial process systems. You will apply this systematic approach to multiple aspects of our business including product development, industrial engineering, product evaluation/evolution, and sales/customer support. The problems the engineering dept. are expected to solve are diverse and quite often unexpected.
These may include:
• Designing structures within tight geometrical constraints.
• Adapting products to meet unorthodox customer requests.
• Diagnosing and resolving product failures in the field.
Adaptivity and creative thinking are key to success.
General Engineering Responsibilities:
1. Design, improve, and test (1) Structural, (2) Electromechanical, and (3) Hydraulic systems. Engineers should have a working knowledge of structural, electromechanical, and hydraulic systems and the ability to integrate them into cohesive designs.
2. Follow a systems engineering framework to solve complex problems.
3. Support business processes for products through sales, production, installation, and technical support.
4. Consult sales representatives and customers on best solutions for customer needs.
5. Apply design techniques for multiple fabrication methods including sheet metal, routing, frames, and solid modeling for 3D printing.
6. Develop and document processes for manufacturing, quality control, and inventory integration

7. Ensure designs meet criteria outlined by governing or certifying bodies and familiarize yourself with commonly used standards (e.g., NIST 44, NFPA 70, UL 508).
8. Provide technical support to production staff, troubleshoot engineering issues, and fulfill drawing requests for customer communication.
9. Conduct research on emerging technologies, experiment with prototypes, and analyze test data to improve product performance.
Design Applications:
1. Structural design of enclosures and housings for DEF storage & dispense equipment.
2. Electrical wiring for industrial equipment.
3. Plumbing design for DEF dispense and transfer systems.
4. Hardware design for equipment mounting and interfacing.
5. Design of industrial controls for products.
6. Sales-to-manufacturing process design.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar field.
2. 3D CAD Proficiency. Onshape is desired; experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar is also acceptable.
3. 2 Years of demonstrable mechanical design projects for manufacturing.
4. Design experience with formed sheet metal, CNC routing, or weldments.
5. Experience creating product documentation for manufacturing or end-users (includes technical drawings, assembly instructions, electrical schematics, or user manuals).
6. Experience working in engineering and cross-department teams.
7. Desire to explore systems, self-teach systems, and suggest system improvements.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Experience with customer consultations.
2. Experience with industrial electrical controls and wiring.
3. ECAD Proficiency. (Siemens Capital X Panel Designer is desired)
4. Familiarity with industry standards such as NIST 44, NFPA 70, UL 508, or similar regulatory requirements.
5. SAP enterprise resource management system familiarity.
6. Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green belt.
7. Familiarity with any scripting language (e.g., Python, MATLAB, VBA).
