Our experienced staff of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Mental Health Specialists, Parent Partners and other therapists/counselors provide case management, mental health care and a range of support services in our outpatient clinics and 24/7 treatment facilities, and in community settings such as schools and homes. Our dedicated teams work collaboratively and in partnership with family members, school administrators and faculty, county social workers, case managers, probation officers and other community-based agencies.

JOB SUMMARY:  This position provides Psychiatry Services to participants receiving services at Stars.  May collaborate with a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner providing Psychiatry Services. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Doctor of Medicine

 

Experience

Experience with County mental health, child welfare, and/or juvenile probation systems and services preferred. 

 

License or Certification

Current state medical license in good standing with the medical board.

Current DEA License

Current malpractice insurance

Valid California Driver's License

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to visually and audibly assess participant's behaviors and needs
  2. Ability to physically perform ProACT.
  3. Ability to sit for long periods, up to 3 hours at a time.
  4. Ability to drive within the community in personal vehicle.

 

POTENTIAL JOB HAZARDS

  1. Potential for eye and wrist strain from computer screen and minor lacerations from paper cuts.
  2. Interaction with potentially assaultive youth.
  3. Blood and Body Fluid Contact (Category I).

   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties

  1. Performs complete initial psychiatric assessments on participants to determine DSM V diagnosis and develop a plan of care including medication furnishing if indicated.
  2. Provides psychiatric services to participants, including psychiatric evaluation and follow up, prescriptions, medication consents, and case management.
  3. Develops, follows and maintains a comprehensive treatment plan that adequately addresses the behavioral healthcare medical needs of the participant.
  4. Partners with Behavioral Health staff to ensure services are integrated into the clinical treatment with the highest level of quality attainable.
  5. Availability by phone to provide support and assistance in problem resolution.
  6. Provides timely documentation of each encounter with a participant, including symptoms addressed, need for current treatment, and rationale for any changes in treatment, within an electronic medical record.
  7. Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures with regard to medical care.
  8. Collaborates with Nurse Practitioners providing psychiatric services to participants. This includes being available by phone for consultation as needed.


Other Responsibilities

  1. Provides consultation to Behavioral Health staff.
  2. Participates in quarterly peer reviews.
  3. Outreaches to community agencies and health care settings.
  4. Collaborates with agency leadership to enhance the Psychiatry Program.
  5. Participates in the agency’s and SBHG’s Total Quality Management and Continuous Quality Improvement systems which support compliance with Joint Commission and other accreditation standards as applicable.
