Purpose

Ensure consistency of RMA products through use of the 7S principles including Sort, Set-In-Order, Standardize, Sustain, Safety & CONTROL to develop Control Plans and Standard Operating Conditions (SOC’s) that ensure our customers receive the same product every time. Promote and lead standardization and relentless continuous process improvement by promoting best practices through Continuous Improvement Teams (CIT’s). This position’s performance results will be measured in these specific key areas: (1) reduced internal rejects and customer complaints, (2) increased Job Rate, (3) reduced Yield Loss, and (4) increases in Cpk for key process and product parameters.

 

Areas of Responsibility / Tasks  

Performance must reflect appropriate level of expertise and achievement of the desired results for the items listed below:

 

  1. Establish new, and sustain existing, Control Plans, including SOC’s to ensure customers receive same formulations and finished product every time.
  2. Coordinate with RHA/RMA Commercial Teams to ensure all customer requirements are being consistently met.
  3. Facilitate Technology Team approval and ownership of formulations that are utilized in Control Plans.
  4. Work with Technology Team and Procurement organization to promote standardization of raw materials where possible.
  5. Supports development of new product Macola Work Packets (Control Plan, SOC, In-Process Sheet, Stock Requisition, Raw Material Audit Form, etc.) and ensures correct and consistent use on shop floor.
  6. Ensure plant is “starting where they stopped” on all production runs and that SOC’s are updated in timely manner to reflect actual, optimal and sustainable run conditions.
  7. Support Plant Manager on KPI goals as related to process improvements through CIT team leadership and involvement.  Focus on Job Rate, Yield Loss, Safety and Quality.
  8. Help transfer best process and equipment practices across production lines. Collect and review SDS for raw materials used in control plans to ensure the safe and regulatory compliant use of these materials in our plants.  Work with S & E Coordinator, where necessary, to update PPE requirements.
  9. Use data and the Voice of Customer (internal and external) to determine where improvements are necessary, initiate corrective action (CAPA) and measure success. 
  10. Support seamless transfer of production lines and products between facilities as necessary to optimize RMA’s financial success.
  11. Serve as expert in the “art and science” of plastic compounding by learning from our supplier and customer partners as well as from the RMA Production and Technology Team. 
  12. Be recognized as a Process Leader in RMA organization.
  13. Drive improvements via Management by Walking Around (MBWA).
  14. Uphold the Ravago Code of Conduct standards.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

 

Competencies; Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA)

To perform this role successfully, an individual must have experience achieving desired result(s) in their areas of responsibility. The requirements listed below are representative of observable behaviors and essential knowledge, skill, and abilities required of a successful incumbent within our culture.           

  1. Must be open to working primarily on manufacturing shop floor and not behind desk.
  2. Need to have good understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  3. Must have some supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  4. Extensive “hands on” experience with running plastics compounding equipment
  5. Experience with “loss in weight”, gravimetric raw material feeders – preferably Acrison.
  6. Must be a “good teacher” to coach all Production Team members.
  7. Compounding, formulation, specimen molding, testing and data reporting experience.
  8. Root cause analysis and problem solving (Green Belt certification preferred).
  9. Must possess excellent interpersonal, people management and problem solving skills. 
  10. Must have excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
  11. Detail oriented, system thinker, disciplined, ability to prioritize and multi-task.

 

Minimum Qualifications/ Education / Experience / Certifications

  1. Education:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in technical field is preferred.
  1. Experience:
  1. 2+ years related laboratory/quality/plastic processing experience, preferred.
  1. Systems Experience:
    1. Microsoft suite: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Macola and SPC Express - Required (Teams, SharePoint, preferred)

 

 Work Environment / Conditions

The work environment/conditions described herein are representative of those that an incumbent may experience, and therefore must be adaptable to work in a shared space, with constant noise, with/or without the use of a private office. Schedules may vary from week to week based on business demands in excess of 40 hours with or without notice.

Travel

  1. Some overnight travel away from home plant location may be required.
  2. Weekend and holiday travel generally will not be required.
