Polymer Lab Technician - Medina- Shift: M-F, 8 a - 4:30 p
Objective / Purpose
Performs laboratory tests to determine characteristics or composition of materials for such purposes as quality control, resale, or product development.
Areas of Responsibility / Tasks
- Set up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as melt indexers, densimeters, mold machines, and other equipment.
- Test all inbound and packaged wide spec plastic materials for such qualities as density, izod, and melting point.
- Test samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
- Record test results on standardized forms.
- Clean laboratory equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work space
- Inspect and identify any contaminations
- Reconcile lab inventory
- Assist technical support in product development
- Mold test bars or sample discs when requested
- Maintain monthly records of testing numbers for accounting purposes
- Adhere to all Company and OSHA safety standards
- Ensure all ISO documentation is current and adhered to; notify Lab Trainer and/or Quality Dept. of necessary revisions.
- Assist production and other departments when requested
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Education / Certifications
- Education
- At least 2 years of experience in a lab environment
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Basic Microsoft Word and Excel
