Produce Section Manager

Summary

The Produce Section Manager steers the operations within the store’s produce department, ensuring fresh fruits vegetables, and flowers reach customers daily. This role involves managing staff, maintaining inventory, organizing displays, and ensuring with company standards and procedures. This role will be responsible to drive sales, enhance customer satisfaction, and contribute to the profitability and success of the retail store through effective management of the Produce section.

Job Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to

• Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures with respect to department operations, quality, safe food handling, to ensure compliance with local, federal, and OSHA safety and sanitation regulations.
• Tracks sales, manages inventory, and orders merchandise to ensure freshness, meet customer demands and ensure profitability of the department.
• Create and manage employee schedules as well as production tasks to meet operational needs.
• Provides training on department procedures, safe food handling, and sanitation regulations.
• Collaborates with other departments regarding promotions to help drive sales.
• Develops and implements merchandising plans, sets up and creates displays for new seasonal items to drive sales and profits.
• Oversees and maintains merchandise presentations (cleanliness, organizing, stocking, and removing).
• Ensure customer satisfaction by resolving concerns, providing quality service, and addressing concerns in a timely manner.
• Prepare and present regular reports on sales planning, negotiation with vendors, ordering, delivery, processing, and sales performance. Collaborate with store management to develop and implement action plans based on report findings.
• Oversee, guide, and motivate produce team, ensuring a cohesive and efficient workflow, while also providing training and development opportunities to reach department goals.
• Evaluating, maintaining and controlling department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, by controlling labor costs and by reducing losses due to shrinkage and pilferage.
• Work with store manager on hiring, evaluation, and overall supervision of department personnel.
• Other duties as instructed or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities 

Directly supervises employees in the Production Section. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with PPRM’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; providing feedback and input for performance reviews; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent; minimum three to five years of work experience in a produce management preferred; customer service experience in a similar or comparable work environment; strong verbal communication skills; or any equivalent combination of formal training and/or experience which provided the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities thereof. 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business data and effectively respond to the data. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from vendors, customers, employees, or others involved or associated in the warehouse section function.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts relevant to the role such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. General knowledge of basic accounting a plus.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

A valid health certificate, ServSafe Food Service Manager’s Certificate or ability to obtain one.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Knowledgeable in use of computer software applications customarily used in the job function at an appropriate proficiency level.
