Director of Planning
About The Position
Pond & Company’s Infrastructure Business Line is seeking a self-motivated Director of Planning to join our growing Infrastructure Team in Georgia. This role is central to our mission of delivering high-quality planning services for transit, transportation, and local government clients.
As Director of Planning in Georgia, you lead integrated infrastructure, mobility, land use, and transit planning, setting strategic direction, providing technical oversight, and ensuring seamless multidisciplinary project delivery. This position requires aligning staffing and resources with evolving client portfolios, supporting business development initiatives, and cultivating public sector partnerships, all with a sharp focus on achieving measurable results and fostering organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Set and guide the overall strategic direction of the planning group.
- Build and maintain a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture.
- Provide mentoring and professional development for planning staff.
- Align internal resources to deliver “best-in-class” services in the Georgia market.
- Define market positioning and service offerings to meet client needs and align with Pond’s strategic infrastructure goals.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day operations, departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and workflow.
- Lead decisions on staffing levels, workload assignments, and resource balancing across active and future planning projects.
- Evaluate team performance through structured performance reviews, targeted training programs, and proactive mentoring to strengthen team skills and align capabilities with evolving project demands.
- Participate in the review and approval process for new hires.
Technical Expertise
- Serve as a Planning Lead, Project Manager, or Project Director as needed.
- Oversee Quality Assurance for all planning deliverables.
- Provide technical leadership, best practices and serve as a subject matter expert within the planning team.
- Lead deployment of advanced planning tools and technologies within technical workflows promoting innovation and efficiency.
- Coordinate cross‑disciplinary delivery across planning, engineering, architecture, and transit disciplines to reinforce an integrated services model.
Business Development & Market Engagement
- Collaborate with Infrastructure Market teams to support strategic pursuits and proposals.
- Provide Go/No-Go input on project pursuits in alignment with operational and client goals.
- Identify and assess potential strategic hires to support future growth.
- Partner with Transportation and Local Government teams to shape and grow planning services in the Georgia market.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in planning or related fields.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Preferred Key Attributes
- Proven expertise in transit, transportation, and local government planning.
- Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to clearly convey information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
