Environmental Discipline Manager
About the Position
We are searching for a Discipline Manager to join our growing team. The Discipline Manager leads and supports the efficient delivery of high-quality environmental services by overseeing project/task execution, resource planning, and technical excellence. This role focuses on operational success through staff leadership and oversite, technical expertise, process improvements, training, and compliance with industry standards while fostering team development and supporting business growth. Support business development initiatives by identifying opportunities, contributing to proposals, and building/maintaining client relationships through successful delivery. Ensure financial success at the project & task level while aligning efforts with strategic organizational goals for growth and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and functional support to staff within the designated environmental discipline.
- Oversee all aspects of technical delivery, including staffing levels, task management, resource planning, staff utilization, employee performance, and workflow efficiency.
- Implement and maintain best practices in QA/QC, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Support process improvements, tools, standards, policies, and procedures to enhance performance, efficiency, technical accuracy, client satisfaction, and overall project success.
- Lead and manage group-wide quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) program, including overseeing routine project audits to ensure compliance by technical staff.
- Collaborate with Directors and other Managers to establish career pathing plans for technical staff, key development metrics, competencies, and framework for professional development.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance team capabilities and technical expertise.
- May serve as PM or TM, ensuring successful execution of work from initiation to completion.
- Communicate and coordinate tasks directly with internal Project Managers, Discipline Managers, Technical Managers, and staff to ensure successful project/task execution.
- Oversee financial performance, ensuring profitability and efficient resource utilization.
- Monitor project/task timelines, budgets, and deliverables to meet client and company objectives.
- Provide guidance on risk management and problem resolution throughout project lifecycle.
- Support and/or lead business development initiatives, including client relationship management, market expansion, and opportunity identification.
- Support and/or lead the development of proposals, scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategic plans for discipline growth, service diversification, and geographic expansion.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, clients, and industry partners and organizations to maintain strong professional relationships.

Qualifications
- Approximately 15+ years of experience serving as an environmental consultant or environmental regulatory specialist, at the discretion of the interview team.
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Art (B.A.) in a relevant environmental discipline (Environmental Science, Wildlife or Fisheries Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Management, Environmental Planning, etc.). A Master of Science (M.S.) is preferred.
- Expert knowledge of fields such as wetland science, flora/fauna, ecosystems of the Southeastern US, environmental impact analysis, etc. with demonstrated experience leading field tasks. Advanced knowledge in additional ecoregions is preferred.
- Expert proficiency with GIS and GPS mapping (ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, and similar software).
- Physically able to travel and conduct field work on various project sites with challenging field conditions such as steep terrain, thick vegetation, and inclement weather.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills with the ability to manage the delivery of complete and clean documents.
- Experience leading and managing highly complex environmental tasks for Departments of Transportation (DOT), Energy, Renewables, Municipal, or Federal projects.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans (civil, roadway, pipeline, etc.).
- Experience managing multiple environmental services projects simultaneously, including projects spanning various markets, clients, and states.
- Ideal candidates would have professional credentials such as American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Certified Ecologist (CE), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP), Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS), or similar.
- Experience supervising one or more mid-to-senior-level staff.
- Willingness to travel as projects require, including occasional overnight travel.
- Ability to work well within a team environment, bringing a positive attitude, multi-tasking abilities, and self-motivated mentality to produce high quality work.
