About the position

We are seeking a Design Manager position to assist the Director of Architecture (DA) with our growing architectural team to provide Design oversight on a variety of projects.  This would include conceptualization, aesthetics, spatial relationships, form, and overall vision of the project. The position will report to our Atlanta (Peachtree Corners) GA office and work closely with our Director of Architecture and our Architecture Managers. The ideal candidate possesses 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in an architectural design firm, with a drive to provide design leadership to a diverse architectural and interior design team. The candidate will work closely with the Director of Architecture to set goals and a strategy around establishing the design approach and processes for the team, geared towards high quality in design amongst all our market pillars.

In this role, the Design Manager will be responsible for overseeing project design reviews, working with senior staff, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring that innovative ideas are translated into practical, high-quality design solutions for our clients. They will champion collaboration across disciplines, fostering an environment where creativity and technical expertise go hand in hand. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for nurturing talent within the team. Additionally, the Design Manager will play a pivotal role in refining design standards, implementing best practices, and leading the team through complex project challenges, all while upholding the core values and vision of Pond Architecture.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the DA on overall strategic direction for the group.
  • Align resources in our multiple offices to foster a more collaborative and effective approach to quality in Design.
  • Assist the DA in recruiting and hiring for all offices.
  • Improving processes for receiving architecture design work from various pillars and programs, including federal, industrial, municipal, higher education, and commercial clients.
  • Effective people management and leadership skills.
  • Employee development.
  • Scheduling team design review sessions early in the process to guide and steer the design as needed.
  • Scheduling internal Design Review Meetings (DRM’s) to foster an environment of collaboration and excellence in design.

Marketing / Project Pursuits

  • Assist and support project pursuits in concert with Pond’s programs and our marketing teams.

Operational

  • Responsible for working with project managers and the design team for continued design coordination during the project lifetime.
  • Support the Architecture Managers in guiding program managers to make informed design decisions that ensure high-quality outcomes. 

Technical

  • Plan, implement, oversee and actively manage our design review process.
  • Responsible for branding the Pond architectural team as an industry recognized quality design firm internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • B. Arch or M. Arch at an accredited university.
  • Architecture License is required. NCARB certification is preferred.
  • 15+ years of related experience including people and project management.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment in multiple locations, positive attitude, multi-task and self-motivated to produce high quality work.
  • Ability and desire to help with the team’s growth and its capabilities.
