Substation Protection & Controls Engineer
About the Position
We are seeking an entry-level Substation Protection and Controls Engineer to join our growing Energy team in The Woodlands, TX. The ideal candidate with learn from our experienced team of Energy professionals, and will provide support in designing control equipment layouts, elementary diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams, and plans for transmission and substation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Help design P&C systems for substations (transmission & distribution).
- Draft one-lines, schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
- Assist with relay settings and coordination studies.
- Support relay and equipment selection (CTs, PTs, breakers, etc.).
- Run short circuit and arc flash studies (ETAP, SKM, CYME).
- Help configure SCADA RTUs and substation communications.
- Create wiring and communication diagrams.
- Use AutoCAD, MicroStation, and P&C design tools.
- Follow standards (NERC, IEEE, NEC, NESC).
- Review vendor drawings for integration into design.
- Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and field staff.
- Help prepare drawing packages and materials lists.
- Assist with basic project tracking and schedules.
- Occasional travel to sites and conferences.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering
- 0–3 years of experience (internships/co-ops a plus).
- Interest in substation P&C design and studies.
- Familiar with AutoCAD and power system software.
- Working toward EIT/PE preferred.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
