Substation Physical Engineer
- Develop substation physical layouts, including general arrangements (GA), equipment layouts, conduit, grounding, and raceway designs.
- Prepare substation design calculations such as bus calculations, cable sizing & schedules, grounding analysis, and lightning protection designs.
- Coordinate with civil, site, and structural engineers to integrate their designs into substation drawings.
- Specify and select high-voltage equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, buswork, CTs/PTs, and surge arresters.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MicroStation, ETAP, CYME and SKM with expertise in substation design, power system analysis, and electrical modeling.
- Ensure compliance with NERC, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and client-specific design standards.
- Knowledge of Air-Insulated (AIS) and Gas-Insulated (GIS) substations.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members.
- Support the development of bid packages, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including substation P&C engineers, project managers and other disciplines, as well as utilities, clients, and field engineers.
- Review vendor drawings and ensure proper equipment integration into substation designs.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Professional Engineering License (PE) or on the path to obtain PE
- 5+ years of experience in substation design
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and design software
